AHU cleaning in Westmarsh, done properly

Units vary a lot in size, age and layout, from a small ceiling-mounted unit to a large rooftop plant. We look at the unit first, from pictures or a site visit, and send you a fixed quote, so you know where you stand. If you’re dealing with air handling units with blocked filters and dust-coated heating and cooling coils, we can help, from supply and extract fans, internal panels and heating and cooling coils onwards.

In rural areas, ventilation units are often in roof voids or outbuildings, which makes them easy to overlook.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What affects the quote in Westmarsh

Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The number of sites or systems
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before we start.

What to send for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to have:

  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • A few general shots of the system

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Westmarsh questions

Do you offer AHU cleaning in Westmarsh?

Yes. Our area runs across London and the South East, Westmarsh included. To start, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with a few pictures of the system.

Do you work in villages like Westmarsh?

Yes, Westmarsh is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we will advise on what to do next.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

We record them on the report, with a note of where it is, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

What do you clean inside the unit?

All the internal parts the air touches, from the intake and filters through the coils and fan to the outlet. You get a photo report showing each part before and after.

What does AHU cleaning cost?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before work begins.

How long will the unit be out of action?

Typically the clean takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. We plan the shutdown around that, out of hours if needed.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes, of course. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule with a fixed quote.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we’ll send a fixed quote.

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and photos, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

If your staff spot something between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that won’t come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We will take a look and give you a fixed quote.

Why it’s worth doing now in Westmarsh

When the unit is clean, less dirt reaches the ducts, so the ducts and grilles stay cleaner between cleans. It also means the next inspection has less to find. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Why us?

  • A written report with pictures after every visit
  • We diagnose before we treat
  • One contact for all your sites in London and the South East
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. In a small place like Westmarsh, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. We survey the unit from pictures or on site and agree what’s included.
  2. The unit is shut down with your site team and the area protected.
  3. We clean or change the filters as agreed, then clean the coils, fan and internal panels.
  4. Drain trays are cleared and cleaned and the outlet checked.
  5. We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after pictures.

How to prepare

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Part by part

Heating and cooling coils

Dirt on a coil slows the air and makes it harder for the coil to heat or cool. A clean gets air moving through the coil properly again.

Internal casing and panels

Dust settles on every internal surface of the unit. Each section is cleaned from the intake through to the outlet.

When something else is needed

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Airflow problems caused by the system’s design
  • Controls and BMS settings that run the unit
  • The supply and extract ducts, quoted separately

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we’ll say what we think.
