Questions from Surrex
Do you work overnight in Surrex?
Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. The work in Surrex can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you are closed and we will book within them.
Can a school’s ventilation in Surrex be done out of term time?
Yes. The holidays are the usual time for school work. There are about 2 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Surrex. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.
How much notice should we give?
For planned work, earlier is better, particularly if your next visit is nearly due. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.
Do you do ventilation duct cleaning too?
Yes, supply and extract ducts, grilles and diffusers. The survey shows whether the ducts need cleaning now.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, fully. We also hold CHAS and SafeContractor, for sites that check contractor safety.
Is a quote from photos possible?
In many cases, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Larger or hidden systems need a survey on site first.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, to suit the system and how it’s used.
Can you fix a faulty AHU?
AHU cleaning is what we offer here, not mechanical repairs. Any faults we notice are recorded for your maintenance team to follow up.
AHU cleaning in Surrex, done properly
Heating and cooling coils trap dust that gets past the filters. A coated coil restricts airflow and makes the unit work harder. We clean coils with methods suited to their condition, taking care not to damage the fins. If you’re dealing with drain trays holding standing water and leaves and litter drawn into the unit, we can put it right.
For a building in or near Surrex, access is agreed in advance and the visit is planned around the journey, and the ventilation is inspected, cleaned and recorded the same as anywhere.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

AHU cleaning in Surrex: local notes
We cover Surrex, about 43 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you.
For buildings in and around Surrex, TR19® Air cleaning starts with an inspection.
Surrex is about 6 miles south-east of Halstead, in Essex. Surrex gets the same approach as every site we work on: diagnosis first, a fixed price, out-of-hours working where needed and a written report with pictures. Surrex is one of 644 places in Essex where we work for commercial clients. Chelmsford is in our area too, around 14 miles away.
Here we cover the CO6 postcode area for AHU cleaning. We cover sites on Old Road and Colchester Road and the roads around them. Close by, we work in Skye Green (1 mile south-east), Broad Green (1 mile east), Stocks Green (1 mile south), Little Tey (1 mile east) and Feering (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Colchester (8 miles east), Chelmsford (14 miles south-west), Braintree (7 miles west), Maldon (10 miles south), Witham (6 miles south-west) and Camulodunum (7 miles east).
Around Surrex
Typical jobs here are in premises near The Queens Head pub, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Kelvedon station, roughly 2.3 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Laundry & Mangle Museum (1.8 miles west) and Birch Castle (5 miles south-east). For a walk, there’s Belcher's and Broadfield Woods.
Keeping the system healthy
So the system stays in good health:
- Keep the area around the fresh air intake clear
- Keep filter changes on time and recorded
- Store the TR19 paperwork where auditors can find it
- Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
You receive a TR19® certificate and a photo report after the clean. Keep both with the building’s maintenance records.
Change or clean filters on time. Overloaded filters let more dirt through to the coils and fan.
What we are called out for in Surrex
Whatever surrounds a building in Surrex, the air drawn into its AHU carries dust, pollen and debris. The intake section and first filters take the brunt, and some travels further into the unit.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs:
- Plant that needs cleaning after a refit
- Air handling units with blocked filters
- Plant that has been serviced but not cleaned
- Stale or musty smells from the ventilation
School buildings such as Honywood Community Science School are normally done in the holidays, so classrooms are not disturbed.
Questions to ask before booking
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Whether the figure could change on the day
- How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
- If they look at the system before pricing

Rooftop and plant room units
Ceiling-mounted and compact units are cleaned too. We protect the area below before opening them.
Internal casing and panels
Dust settles on every internal surface of the unit. Each section is cleaned from the intake through to the outlet.
When something else is needed
Not every problem is solved by AHU cleaning, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:
- A system that is undersized for the building
- The supply and extract ducts, quoted separately
- Building management system faults
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What affects the quote in Surrex
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- How big the system is
- When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
- Whether several sites go on one quote
- Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
What to send for a quote
When you call or email, these details help:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.
What staff can safely do
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that is where we come in.
How it works
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Surrex can be planned properly.
- First we agree when the unit can be switched off, including evenings or weekends.
- Before cleaning, each section is photographed.
- We work through the unit from the intake to the outlet.
- The fan and drain tray are cleaned and the drain checked.
- We take after pictures and issue the certificate and report.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Move anything stored near the system
