Where buildings like these have air handling units, filters, coils and drain trays need regular attention. Lister Hospital is the nearest hospital, about 2.6 miles south-east of Poets Estate. If you run a surgery, clinic or care home, your ventilation deserves the same care as a hospital’s, on a smaller scale. About 32 miles out from central London, Poets Estate is part of the South East area we work across. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.
Healthcare ventilation, from large hospitals like Lister Hospital (about 2.6 miles south-east) to small clinics, depends on clean filters, coils and ducts. If you manage a school such as William Ransom Primary School, ventilation cleaning is best booked for the holidays. For workplaces around Hitchin station with mechanical ventilation, cleaning can be done in the evening or at weekends.

AHU cleaning in Poets Estate, done properly
We clean air handling units for buildings in Poets Estate and across Hertfordshire, working to TR19® Air, in buildings such as offices, schools, healthcare sites and shops. The work is timed around when the system can be switched off, including evenings, nights and weekends. The work covers drain trays, filter sections and supply and extract fans, and the jobs we see most are dirty coils holding back the airflow and dirty fans and fan housings.
Around a place like Poets Estate, ventilation systems tend to be in schools, surgeries, care homes and workplaces. Even a small system collects dust in its ducts and filters.
Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

For landlords and multi-site operators
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
What AHU cleaning cannot fix
We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- Faulty motors, drives or bearings
- Controls and BMS settings that run the unit
- A system that’s undersized for the building
If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Internal panels
- Drain trays
- Filter sections
- Dampers and louvres
- Heating and cooling coils
- Supply and extract fans
What the work involves, part by part
Drain trays
A tray that does not drain becomes a pool of stagnant water in the airstream. We clean it and note if the slope or the drain needs attention.
Rooftop and plant room units
Smaller units in ceiling voids are part of the work as well. The space underneath is protected with sheeting first.
How the visit works
We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. The work itself takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. Tell us when your site near Poets Estate is quiet and the visit will be booked for then.
- We start with a survey of the unit and a fixed quote for the work.
- We arrange the shutdown with your staff and sheet the area.
- Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
- Drain trays are cleared and cleaned and the outlet checked.
- We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.
Before we arrive
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
- Let us know about parking and loading
How to get a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

Aftercare tips
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Flag stale or damp smells in the supply air
- Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
- Do not store bins or materials near the intake
- Change filters on schedule and log each change
You receive a TR19® certificate and a photo report after the clean. Keep both with the building’s maintenance records.
Keep the unit’s doors and panels in working order. Sections that are awkward to open are the ones that get skipped.
Why deal with it now?
Tenants, auditors and owners may want proof that the air handling plant is kept clean. A TR19® certificate and photo report give you that, ready to show anyone who asks. A visit arranged in advance is far less disruptive than a callout on a busy day.
What you pay depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.
What you get with us

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
