Ventilation in Milton buildings
The FSA’s food hygiene register lists about 30 schools, colleges and universities, about 43 care, childcare and hospital premises and about 13 hotels and B&Bs with registered kitchens or food service in Milton and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Many buildings of this kind have supply and extract ductwork that gathers dust and needs inspecting. The nearest hospital to Milton is St. Mary's Hospital, about less than half a mile north-west. Healthcare buildings depend on clean supply and extract ventilation, and the same applies to surgeries, clinics and care homes.
School buildings such as Meon Junior School are usually done in the holidays, so classrooms are not disturbed. Healthcare buildings such as St. Mary's Hospital, about less than half a mile north-west, depend on their ventilation; if you manage a surgery, clinic or care home near Milton, yours matters too.

AHU cleaning in Milton
An AHU clean is a thorough examination and treatment of the unit. Every section is opened, cleaned and photographed, so you can see the unit’s condition for yourself. If you have intake sections clogged with outdoor debris and drain trays holding standing water, we can put it right.
Smaller buildings around Milton often keep their ventilation units in a roof void or plant cupboard, where they’re easy to forget. Every unit, large or small, has filters, coils and a drain tray to keep clean.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with photos, plus a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal when the work is a TR19® Grease clean. Any parts we couldn’t reach are recorded on it too.

Milton questions
Will you come out to Milton?
Yes. Milton is within the area we cover across London and the South East. A survey first, from pictures or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Can you come to Milton after we close?
Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Milton keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Which parts of an air handling unit do you clean?
We clean the filter section, heating and cooling coils, drain trays, fan and internal casing. Filters are cleaned or changed as agreed in the quote.
Are you insured?
Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and the details are available on request.
Can you price the work without visiting?
Usually, yes. Send a few wide pictures plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and we normally come back within one working day. If photos are not enough, we’ll survey first.
Where does the waste go?
It’s contained and taken away. We collect grease, debris and waste water as we go rather than letting it spread.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Any commercial site with kitchens or ventilation, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.
How much does AHU cleaning cost?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote, normally ready within one working day.
Multi-site and managed buildings
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed quote.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the system working properly between visits:
- Change filters on schedule and log each change
- Report water on the plant room floor
- Flag stale or damp smells in the supply air
- Keep inspection doors on the unit in good order
Once the clean is done, we send a TR19® certificate and a report with before and after pictures. Keep both with the building’s maintenance records.
Change or clean filters on time. Once filters clog, dirt starts getting past them.
What staff can safely do
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
When your team notices a problem between visits, such as dripping grease, a noisy fan, a smell or a filter that will not come clean, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.
The process
Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. The visit itself takes half a day to a full day per unit, with large plant planned over several shifts. Tell us about any gates, ladders or locked plant areas at your site near Milton when you book.
- First the unit is surveyed, from pictures or a visit, and the scope agreed.
- The unit is shut down with your site team and the area protected.
- We clean or change the filters as agreed, then clean the coils, fan and internal panels.
- Drain trays are cleared and cleaned and the outlet checked.
- We close up the unit and send the certificate and before and after photos.
How to prepare
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Clear the space around the work
Getting a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Related advice
Different parts, different methods
Heating and cooling coils
Cooling coils stay damp in use, so dirt on them can turn sticky. The coil and its drain tray are cleaned as one job.
Internal casing and panels
The inside walls and floor of the casing collect dust and debris. We clean each section from intake to discharge.
When it’s something else
AHU cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Damaged coils beyond cleaning
- Faulty motors, drives or bearings
- Airflow problems caused by the system’s design
If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

When to call us in Milton
Air handling units are normally tucked away on roofs, in plant rooms or above ceilings, so they’re easy to forget about. It’s easy for a long time to go by without anyone opening the panels.
Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:
- Filters that are clogged or overdue
- Units that have only ever had filter changes
- Odours coming through the supply air
- Dust built up on fan impellers
If you run an office near Fratton station, its supply ductwork can gather dust for years before anyone looks inside.
What your quote should include
- Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
- What paperwork you get at the end
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- How they set the interval to the next visit
