AHU cleaning in Luton

Units vary a lot in size, age and layout, from a small ceiling-mounted unit to a large rooftop plant. We look at the unit first, from photos or a site visit, and give you a fixed quote, so you know where you stand. If you have fan sections that haven’t been cleaned in years and debris and leaves in the fresh air intake, we can put it right.

Visits to a place like Luton are fitted around opening hours. The method doesn’t change: inspect first, clean, then record what was done.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

How we price AHU cleaning

The quote reflects the site in front of us. We consider:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • What state the system is in
  • How big the system is
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

What to send for a quote

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price the work. Useful things to send:

  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Need a price for AHU cleaning? Please call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with a few details about the site. We will talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Aftercare tips

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Keep the certificate and photo report with the plant records
  • Book the next check in line with the report
  • Report musty smells from the vents straight away
  • Change filters on schedule and log each change

We recommend when the unit should next be inspected or cleaned, taking into account how dirty it was. Under TR19® Air the timing is set by inspection and risk, not a fixed calendar.

Regular inspection under TR19® Air shows when cleaning is due instead of leaving it to guesswork.

Different parts, different methods

Rooftop and plant room units

Units on roofs and in plant rooms can be awkward to reach. Access is planned during the survey, before we quote.

Internal casing and panels

Dust settles on every internal surface of the unit. Each section is cleaned from the intake through to the outlet.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes anything from half a day for one small unit to several shifts for a plant room full of them. Your opening hours decide when we come to Luton, not ours.

  1. We start with a survey of the unit and a fixed quote for the work.
  2. The unit is shut down with your site team and the area protected.
  3. Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
  4. Standing water and slime come out of the tray and the drain is checked.
  5. A TR19® certificate and photo report follow the clean.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

How to get a quote

For a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Common questions in Luton

Can a school’s ventilation in Luton be done out of term time?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 28 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of Luton. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Do you cover smaller places like Luton?

Yes, Luton is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

How long does it take to clean an air handling unit?

As a guide, it takes one overnight shift for many single units, with bigger plant phased. We plan the shutdown around that, out of hours if needed.

Are you accredited?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Do you clean the ductwork as well?

Yes. Ventilation ductwork cleaning to TR19® Air is part of what we do. It’s often worth doing both at once, and we can survey both on the same visit.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

Why act early in Luton

A clogged coil or dirty fan makes the unit work harder for the same airflow. That means more wear on the motor and rooms that feel less fresh, and a clean on your terms beats a breakdown on nobody’s. Booking ahead lets us plan the trip to Luton at a time that suits you.

One small site or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before we start.

What you get with us

  • Out-of-hours work and a 24/7 emergency line
  • In business since 2009
  • Accredited under CHAS and SafeContractor, with ISO 9001
  • A fixed price before any work starts

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Ventilation in Luton buildings

Going by the FSA’s register, there are about 28 schools, colleges and universities, about 46 care, childcare and hospital premises and about 7 hotels and B&Bs serving food within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Luton. Busy, occupied buildings like these are where clean supply air matters most. For Luton, the closest hospital is Medway Maritime Hospital, roughly 0.7 miles north. Clean air matters most where people are unwell, and that is as true in a care home as in a hospital. Luton, about 29 miles from central London, is within our usual area. Visits are booked around your hours, evenings and weekends included.

If you manage a school such as Luton Infant & Nursery School, ventilation cleaning is best booked for the holidays. Healthcare buildings such as Medway Maritime Hospital, about 0.7 miles north, depend on their ventilation; if you manage a surgery, clinic or care home near Luton, yours matters too.
