AHU cleaning for sites in Hudnall

AHU cleaning in Hudnall

Coils are where a lot of the dirt ends up. Dirt on the fins holds back air and makes the unit work harder to do the same job. Coils are cleaned carefully, with methods chosen so the fins aren’t flattened. If you have intake sections clogged with outdoor debris and fan sections that haven’t been cleaned in years, we can put it right, from internal panels, filter sections and drain trays onwards.

Work in a small place like Hudnall starts with agreeing access and timings, and the ventilation is inspected, cleaned and recorded the same as anywhere.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

Aftercare tips

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Diary the inspection date recommended in the report
  • Report stiff or damaged access doors
  • Do not ignore odours coming through the grilles
  • Keep filter changes on time and recorded

Stick to the filter change schedule, as that does more than anything to keep the unit clean. Log every change so it’s easy to see when the next is due.

Make sure access doors and panels on the unit open easily. Sections that are awkward to open are the ones that get skipped.

Your questions about AHU cleaning in Hudnall

Do you work at weekends in Hudnall?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. It means the site in Hudnall keeps running as normal. When you call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, mention when the site is quiet.

Can you clean school ventilation in Hudnall during the holidays?

Yes, holiday work suits schools best. With about 3 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Hudnall, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will fit the work in.

Do you work in Hudnall?

Yes. Hudnall is part of the area we cover, within the South East and London area we cover.

When should our AHU next be cleaned?

There’s no single answer; it comes down to the building and the unit. Inspection tells you when cleaning is needed, and the report recommends a next date.

Which parts of an air handling unit do you clean?

Filters, coils, drain trays, the fan and the internal surfaces are all covered. Filters are cleaned or changed as agreed in the quote.

How long does it take to clean an air handling unit?

As a guide, it takes one overnight shift for many single units, with bigger plant phased. We plan the shutdown around that, out of hours if needed.

How far ahead should we book?

Earlier is better, especially for out-of-hours work. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

Where does the waste go?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Staff cleaning does not replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you can’t see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

When to call us in Hudnall

Mechanical servicing keeps a unit running, but it does not always include cleaning the inside. That means a unit can tick every service box and still be carrying years of dirt.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Units that have only ever had filter changes
  • Dust-coated heating and cooling coils
  • Condensate trays that won’t empty
  • Units needing a clean before a new tenant or handover

Healthcare buildings such as Hemel Hempstead Hospital, about 5.1 miles south-east, depend on their ventilation; if you manage a surgery, clinic or care home near Hudnall, yours matters too.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes from a few hours for a compact unit to a day or more for a large one. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Hudnall can be planned properly.

  1. First the unit is surveyed, from photos or a visit, and the scope agreed.
  2. With your site team, the unit is switched off and isolated, then the area around it protected.
  3. Filters are dealt with as agreed, and the coils, fan and casing cleaned.
  4. We clean out the drain tray and make sure it drains.
  5. A TR19® certificate and photo report follow the clean.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

What the work involves, part by part

Heating and cooling coils

Heating and cooling coils have tightly packed fins that trap fine dust. They’re cleaned using methods that will not bend or flatten the fins.

Fans and fan sections

The fan moves all of the unit’s air, so dirt on it gets spread around. The impeller, its housing and the fan chamber are cleaned.
