AHU cleaning in Fir Toll

AHU cleaning in Fir Toll

Units vary a lot in size, age and layout, from a small ceiling-mounted unit to a large rooftop plant. Every job starts with a survey, from photos or on site, followed by a fixed quote before any cleaning starts. We’re often asked to deal with drain trays holding standing water and plant that needs cleaning after a refit, across drain trays, heating and cooling coils and dampers and louvres.

Somewhere as small as Fir Toll, ducted ventilation is usually limited to a school, a care home, a surgery or a converted business building, wherever there is one, but where it’s fitted, it needs the same inspection and cleaning as anywhere.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

The process

Night work is normal for us. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes half a day to a full day per unit, with large plant planned over several shifts. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Fir Toll knowing what to expect.

  1. First we agree when the unit can be switched off, including evenings or weekends.
  2. Before cleaning, each section is photographed.
  3. Filters, coils and internal surfaces are cleaned from intake to discharge.
  4. We finish with the fan section and the drain tray.
  5. After pictures are taken and the certificate issued.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions

Part by part

Internal casing and panels

Damaged internal linings or loose panels can shed material into the air. We note any we find in the report.

Drain trays

A tray that doesn’t drain becomes a pool of stagnant water in the airstream. We clean it and report anything about the tray or drain that needs fixing.

What a clean won’t put right

Not every problem is solved by AHU cleaning, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t put right:

  • Leaking heating or cooling coils
  • Dirty ducts beyond the unit itself
  • Faulty motors, drives or bearings

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on in Fir Toll

When to call us in Fir Toll

Whatever surrounds a building in Fir Toll, the air drawn into its AHU carries dust, pollen and debris. Most of it lands at the intake and the first stage of filters, and the finer material travels on.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Drain trays holding standing water
  • Coils clogged with dust and debris
  • Air handling units due a clean after building work
  • Dirty filters cutting the airflow

For schools like Pluckley Church of England Primary School, the holidays are the usual time to inspect and clean ventilation.

What affects the quote in Fir Toll

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The scale of the work
  • The condition of the system
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • The postcode and the type of business
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we usually reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

Why act early in Fir Toll

Dirt left in an air handling unit does not stay in the unit. It moves on into the ductwork and out into the rooms, so cleaning the ducts without the unit only goes so far. Somewhere as small as Fir Toll, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.
