TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in The Heath
Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. Typical jobs include pre-clean surveys before a first TR19 clean and kitchens taken over with no cleaning records, on insurer audits, access surveys and pre-clean surveys.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
A written report with pictures follows every visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What we do, step by step
At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near The Heath, let us know and we will plan around it.
- Post-clean verification is booked once the clean is done.
- The same access points are opened up.
- We repeat the WFTT or DTT readings.
- Photos are taken to show the condition after the clean.
- The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
Advice
In-house cleaning or a specialist?
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That’s our job.
Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.
Aftercare tips
After the visit, a few habits help the work last:
- Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals
- Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly
- Flag changes in how much frying the kitchen does
- Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. With panels fitted, the next clean can cover every section.
When cooking hours or the menu change, check the interval still fits. Fresh readings show whether it needs to change.
How we price TR19 inspection
You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It takes into account:
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- How many systems or sites are involved
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
The cost depends on how big the system is, the condition it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.
What we need to know
What to send for a quote:
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
- Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- A few general shots of the system
Need a price for TR19 inspection? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and send you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
Leave it or put it right?
Skipping grease testing leaves the cleaning interval to guesswork. If grease reaches 500 microns anywhere, TR19® Grease calls for immediate spot cleaning, which you will not know without measuring. Planning a trip to The Heath ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.
When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Kitchen extracts in The Heath
The Heath sits within the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. The Heath is about 29 miles from central London, well within the area we cover across London and the South East. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends, so the visit fits around the site.
Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Shaw's Corner is about 4.9 miles south-east), access may need planning. School kitchens, at schools like Breachwood Green Junior Mixed and Infant School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

When it’s something else
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what TR19 inspection won’t do:
- Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
- Installation problems, which fall under design guidance such as DW172
- The legal duty, which stays with the responsible person
If you are not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
What the work covers
- Wet film thickness tests
- Deposit thickness tests
- Post-clean checks
- Insurer audits
- Pre-clean surveys
- Access surveys
When to call us in The Heath
You can’t judge grease thickness by eye. Clean filters can hide a heavy layer behind them, so readings are the reliable guide.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Confirming a clean reached the whole system
- Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
- An insurer’s request for a TR19 audit
- Missing access panels found on survey
Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to The Heath is Keech Hospice Care, about 5.1 miles north-west.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether they recommend a next date
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
- Whether a survey comes first
Your questions about TR19 inspection in The Heath
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for The Heath?
The Heath is in the area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
Can you get to a site in The Heath?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, The Heath included. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, plus food production and leisure sites.
Where does the waste go?
It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. During the work, it’s contained to keep the area clean.
How often should grease be tested?
Enough to be sure grease stays within the TR19® Grease figures between cleans. If readings rise, the interval should shorten.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for anything that cannot wait until a planned visit. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
Can you inspect our extract for our insurance company?
Yes. Insurers often want evidence the extract is managed to TR19®, and an audit report gives you that, along with any actions needed.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: the address, the site type, your opening hours and how we reach the system. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
