Need TR19 inspection in Tewin?

For landlords and multi-site operators

Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

About our TR19 inspection in Tewin

Under TR19® Grease, the mean grease thickness should stay at or below 200 microns between cleans, and 500 microns or more at any point needs immediate spot cleaning. Testing is how you know where your system stands. If you have extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean and cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen, we can put it right.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. We agree access and timings in advance.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Tewin?

Kitchens change: a new menu, longer hours or more frying can all add grease. The old cleaning schedule may not match the kitchen any more.

It’s time to book a visit if you see:

  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
  • Kitchens taken over with no cleaning records
  • Missing access panels found on survey
  • Ductwork where grease may be over the TR19 limits

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St Peter, or anywhere in Tewin, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What to look for in a quote

  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed

Questions to ask before you book

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Tewin and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. The system is checked from canopy to discharge.
  3. Grease thickness is measured at set points by WFTT or DTT.
  4. Each test point and any access problems are photographed.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, photos and a recommended next clean.

What the work involves, part by part

Vertical risers

Risers carry the extract up through the building. Grease can run down and collect at the base, so the base is a key test point.

Canopy and plenum

Behind the filters, the plenum catches plenty of grease. Readings and photos are taken in the plenum on every inspection.

What a clean won’t put right

It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:

  • Ductwork that was designed or installed badly
  • A faulty or failing extract fan
  • Hidden runs that need access panels first

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work

  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Deposit thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks
  • Insurer audits
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Access surveys

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

What TR19 inspection looks like in Tewin

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 5 restaurants, cafés and canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Tewin. Each kitchen extract among them can be measured for grease to set the right cleaning interval. In Tewin, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from East Hertfordshire council. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Tewin is covered by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (about 2.8 miles south-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. School kitchens, at schools like Ridgeway Academy for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Why deal with it now?

An EHO visit, an insurance renewal or a fire risk assessment is a bad time to find your extract records are thin. An inspection now gives a site in Tewin a current picture. Out of sight is the usual reason a rural system goes too long without attention.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

Common questions in Tewin

Is Tewin within the area you cover?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Tewin is covered. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Can you come to Tewin after we close?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. That way a site in Tewin doesn’t have to lose a day’s trading. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where needed. A fixed quote follows.

Will you produce a report for our insurer?

Yes, for kitchens across the South East and London. Tell us what your insurer has asked for and we will set the report out to match.

How much notice do you need?

Book as early as you can for planned work, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. Emergencies are different, because our line is open 24/7.

What happens to the waste?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

How often should grease be tested?

That varies with the kitchen’s daily use. BESA’s minimum cleaning intervals are every 3, 6 or 12 months for heavy, moderate and light use, and testing shows if your kitchen needs more.

What’s TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
