TR19 inspection for sites in Stock

About our TR19 inspection in Stock

Many insurers ask for proof that kitchen extract systems are cleaned and inspected to TR19®. Missing records can lead to a claim being reduced or refused. Our TR19 audits give sites in Stock and across Essex a clear record of the system’s condition. If you have checking the result of a recent clean and systems that need surveying before cleaning, we can help, from post-clean checks, access surveys and deposit thickness tests onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Stock, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Insurers, fire officers and environmental health officers all look at records. That is why every job is written up in a report with pictures, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What TR19 inspection looks like in Stock

Food Standards Agency records list about 6 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Stock. Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service covers Stock. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. In Stock, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Chelmsford council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Stock, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Stock Church of England Primary School or anywhere near Stock, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Stock: your questions answered

Will you come out to Stock?

Yes. Stock is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you work overnight in Stock?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. It means the site in Stock keeps running as normal. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance plans are part of what we do, set at the interval the system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

How much time does an inspection need?

It takes a morning or less for one kitchen, more where there are several systems. We fit it around when the kitchen is closed or quiet.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, if we can see what we need. If not, a site survey comes first, then a fixed quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. If we need more, we’ll ask.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.

What the work involves, part by part

Horizontal duct runs

Bends and long runs can hold heavy deposits, well away from where anyone looks.

Extract fan and discharge

Grease on the fan adds to wear. The inspection shows whether it needs cleaning now.

What we do, step by step

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes anything from an hour for a small canopy and short duct to a good part of a day for a large site, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. In a small place like Stock, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.

  1. After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
  2. The same access points are opened up.
  3. Grease readings are taken again at set points.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. We report the findings and flag any areas that need more work.

Preparing for the visit

  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.

What we need to know

What to send for a quote:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Any previous report or certificate
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

Between visits

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Look out for grease drips round the canopy edge
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly
  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
  • Have the latest report ready for insurance renewals

Where sections couldn’t be reached, the report says where access panels would help. Fitting them before the next clean means the whole system gets done.

Keep all TR19 records together so you can produce them quickly.

Do you need TR19 inspection in Stock?

When a site in Stock changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:

  • Extracts that may be over the 200 micron mean
  • Parts of the system left out of past cleans
  • Surveys needed before quoting a full clean
  • Kitchen extract systems with no recent grease readings

Historic houses near Stock, such as Ingatestone Hall about 2.5 miles west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes.

Comparing quotes

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
  • Proof of insurance

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Why deal with it now?

A pre-clean survey avoids surprises on the night. Access problems are spotted in advance rather than on the night, and the quote reflects the real job. A fault that closes a site in a village like Stock affects everyone who depends on it.

What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before work begins.
