TR19 inspection near Kingsash

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.

About our TR19 inspection in Kingsash

BESA sets minimum cleaning intervals by daily use: heavy use (12 to 16 hours a day) every 3 months, moderate use (6 to 12 hours) every 6 months and light use (2 to 6 hours) every 12 months. Grease testing shows whether your kitchen needs cleaning more often than that. The work covers wet film thickness tests, insurer audits and deposit thickness tests, and the jobs we see most are post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean and heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts.

In a small place like Kingsash, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with photos of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • The times the site is available
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • The condition of the system

Several systems or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at and we’ll price it together.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, please include:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.

What the work involves, part by part

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

BESA’s minimum for heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day is a clean every 3 months, and readings show whether that’s enough.

Extract fan and discharge

We look at where the extract discharges outside, as grease can build up there too.

When to call us in Kingsash

You cannot judge grease thickness by eye. A system can look clean at the filters and be heavily coated further in, which is why readings matter.

Clients typically contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Extracts that have never been grease tested
  • Insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning
  • Confirming a clean reached the whole system
  • Heavy grease suspected in the plenum or ducts

School kitchens, at schools like Wendover House School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • Proof of insurance

Look up Kingsash on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 3 restaurants, cafés and canteens within about 1.5 miles of central Kingsash. Where they cook under a canopy, a grease reading is the way to tell whether the extract is due a clean. It’s Buckinghamshire council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Kingsash. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. The fire and rescue service for Kingsash is Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Cholesbury Manor House is about 2.7 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning. Church and community hall kitchens, near Old Church of St John the Baptist or anywhere around Kingsash, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Why act early in Kingsash

An EHO visit, an insurance renewal or a fire risk assessment is a bad time to find your extract records are thin. A recent inspection report means you’re ready when asked. It’s simpler to plan the work at Kingsash now than to arrange it in a hurry later.

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

What happens on the day

Night work is normal for us. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so the site can open as normal afterwards. On site, the work takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. Rural roads and tight entrances are worth telling us about before a visit to Kingsash.

  1. First we book a time that won’t disrupt cooking.
  2. Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, pictures and a recommended next clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time

Advice

Managing agents and facilities teams in Kingsash

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Buckinghamshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Kingsash: your questions answered

Which fire service covers Kingsash?

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Kingsash. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Can you work in Kingsash outside opening hours?

Yes, we can come after you close and finish before you open. It means the site in Kingsash keeps running as normal. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.

How do you protect the area?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and waste is contained as we go. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

What is a WFTT or DTT grease test?

It’s a measurement of how much grease is coating the inside of the extract, by WFTT or DTT. Each reading is recorded in microns.

What happens on a pre-clean survey?

We check the layout, the grease levels and the access, so the clean goes to plan. Missing access panels are noted so they can be sorted first.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few pictures plus the address and your hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

Do you carry out TR19 audits for insurers?

Yes, for kitchens across the South East and London. Share the insurer’s request so the report addresses it.

What types of premises do you cover?

Commercial premises of every kind: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.
