When to call us in Grange

When a site in Grange changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. Without them, nobody knows how much grease is in the system or when it was last cleaned.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean
  • Cleaning intervals that may not suit the kitchen
  • Missing TR19 certificates or history
  • Systems that need surveying before cleaning

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Woodlands Primary School or anywhere near Grange, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Grange

Not every kitchen fits neatly into a calendar. In a busy kitchen, grease can build faster than the minimum intervals allow for, and only measurement shows it. Our readings give your risk assessment real numbers to work from. The work covers post-clean checks, insurer audits and pre-clean surveys, and people most often call us about an insurer’s request for a TR19 audit and extracts that have never been grease tested.

For a kitchen in or near Grange, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, covering the work done, any areas we couldn’t access and a recommended next date. File it in your maintenance log so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

What we do, step by step

We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that’s an evening, overnight or a weekend. When the team arrives, the work area is protected and the relevant equipment is switched off to cool, and the work takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. For a village or hamlet like Grange, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. Every part of the system is examined, end to end.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. The findings go into a report with readings, photos and a recommended next clean.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids

Advice

How we price TR19 inspection

The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • How big the system is
  • The number of sites or systems
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we’ll price it together.

Helping us quote

You do not need the technical terms. Just send:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • Your last certificate, test record or report
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.

Why deal with it now?

Without readings, you are guessing when to clean. Any reading of 500 microns or more needs immediate spot cleaning under TR19® Grease, and you can only act on that if you’ve measured it. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we’ll talk you through it.

Aftercare tips

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. A few tips:

  • File every inspection report with your certificates
  • Keep the route to access panels clear
  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans
  • Keep grease filters clean and fitted properly

If any reading is 500 microns or more, the report flags it for immediate spot cleaning, and we can arrange it.

Keep all TR19 records together so the history is easy to show.

How the job changes from site to site

Restaurants, pubs and hotels

We test between services, early in the morning or after close so trading isn’t affected.

Extract fan and discharge

The extract fan and its housing collect grease too. They’re included in the readings and pictures.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Common questions in Grange

Does the sea air around Grange make a difference to TR19 inspection?

It can. Grange is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Grange?

Kitchens in Grange are inspected by Medway council’s environmental health officers. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Are you accredited?

We are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What do you do to protect the area?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before any work starts, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

What grease levels does TR19 allow?

The TR19® Grease figures are a mean of 200 microns or less between cleans, and immediate spot cleaning wherever a reading hits 500 microns. Our report sets your readings against both.

Is TR19 a legal requirement?

No. TR19® isn’t law; it’s BESA’s specification. The legal duty comes from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which requires the responsible person to reduce fire risk, and TR19® is what insurers and fire officers look to.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. Photos of the system and the access, plus your opening hours and last report, are often enough. Where we can’t see enough, we arrange a survey.

Grease, kitchens and Grange

Sea air reaches Grange, which sits within about 1 mile of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 15 pubs and bars in Grange and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Kitchens in Grange get their food hygiene inspections from Medway council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Historic houses near Grange, such as Restoration House about 3.3 miles west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Mary Magdalen or elsewhere in Grange, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
