TR19 inspection near Birch

About our TR19 inspection in Birch

Before any clean in Birch, we survey the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, fan and discharge. We check where the access panels are and whether every section can be reached, and record grease readings at set points. If you have insurance renewals needing proof of TR19 cleaning and extracts that have never been grease tested, we can put it right, from deposit thickness tests, insurer audits and post-clean checks onwards.

Somewhere as small as Birch, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

We’ve been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Birch

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Birch and across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building to keep disruption down.

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.

Why deal with it now?

After an incident, an insurer can ask to see proof of TR19 cleaning and inspection. Without them, a claim can be reduced or refused. An up-to-date inspection report is a good place to start. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Why book with us

  • Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus 24/7 emergency callout
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • We’re fully insured
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote

What the work involves, part by part

Extract fan and discharge

Grease builds up on the fan blades and inside the housing. They’re included in the readings and photos.

Horizontal duct runs

Sections without access are recorded so panels can be added.

When to call us in Birch

When a site in Birch changes owner or cleaning contractor, the records do not always follow. With no history, the current state of the extract is a guess.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Sections of duct that cannot be reached
  • Systems cleaned on a calendar with no measurements
  • Missing TR19 certificates or history
  • Post-clean verification after another contractor’s clean

If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Birch (Layer Marney Tower is about 1.7 miles south-west), fitting access panels needs care.

Comparing quotes

  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • Whether a written report and pictures are included
  • Their accreditations, such as BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite, CHAS or SafeContractor
  • When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours

When something else is needed

TR19 inspection can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It does not solve:

  • Sections with no access, until panels are fitted
  • Fan breakdowns, which need a repair visit
  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Birch kitchens: local notes

The fire and rescue service for Birch is Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. We cover Birch, about 46 miles from central London, as part of our work across London and the South East. Evening, overnight and weekend visits are all possible.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Essex County Hospital (about 4.2 miles north-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. For schools such as Birch Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.

Birch is about 5 miles south-west of Colchester, in Essex. Whatever kind of site you run in Birch, we can take on TR19 inspection. We can work out of hours so trading is not interrupted. Our area takes in 644 places across Essex, large and small. You can also see our page for Chelmsford, roughly 16 miles from Birch.

Every address in CO2 is covered for TR19 inspection, from the main roads to the quietest streets. If your site is just outside Birch, we cover Birch Green (1 mile south), Layer Breton (1 mile south), Heckfordbridge (1 mile north), Layer-de-la-Haye (2 miles east) and Copford Green (2 miles north-west). Further out, we also cover Colchester (5 miles north-east), Braintree (11 miles west), Clacton-on-Sea (14 miles east), Maldon (10 miles south-west), Witham (8 miles west) and Camulodunum (4 miles north-east).

Between visits

After the visit, a few habits help the work last:

  • Clean or swap grease filters as often as the kitchen needs
  • Keep TR19 certificates, readings and reports together
  • Flag oily drips near the extract
  • Clean grease off the canopy between professional cleans

After the inspection, we send a report showing each reading, its location and pictures. File it alongside your TR19 certificates.

Keep all TR19 records together so the history is easy to show.

How the visit works

Your trading hours come first. We book the visit for a time the area is closed, whether that is an evening, overnight or a weekend. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the job takes around an hour or two per canopy and duct system. For a village or hamlet like Birch, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. We agree a time when the kitchen is closed or quiet.
  2. We look over the canopy, plenum, ducts, fan and discharge.
  3. Grease readings are taken at set points using WFTT or DTT.
  4. Photos are taken at each point, and access gaps noted.
  5. You get a report with readings, pictures and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Let us know when the site is closed or quiet

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Birch questions

Who is the fire and rescue service for Birch?

That is Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.

Do you cover smaller places like Birch?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Birch is covered. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the time you need and how big the job is. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

Can you quote from pictures?

In many cases, yes. With good pictures, the site type and your last report, we can price many jobs. Where we cannot see enough, we arrange a survey.

What is grease thickness testing?

Readings are taken using the Wet Film Thickness Test or the Deposit Thickness Test, and set against the TR19® Grease figures.

What about areas you can’t get to?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Do you work out of hours?

Yes, and that’s how we prefer to work. We book the visit for when the area is out of use, such as late evening, overnight or a weekend.
