Need TR19 inspection in Bentley?

TR19 inspection for kitchens and businesses in Bentley

TR19® Grease says grease should not exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans, while a reading of 500 microns or more anywhere calls for immediate spot cleaning. Grease testing shows which side of those lines you’re on. The work covers deposit thickness tests, post-clean checks and insurer audits, and people most often call us about extracts that have never been grease tested and systems that need surveying before cleaning.

Somewhere as small as Bentley, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Essex. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Store grease readings where your insurer can see them
  • Tell us if menus or opening hours change
  • Report grease dripping from the canopy
  • Wipe the canopy surfaces regularly

Each report suggests the next clean and the next test, based on the readings and how the kitchen is used.

Keep all TR19 records together so the history is easy to show.

When something else is needed

We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • The grease itself, which needs a full or spot clean
  • Mechanical faults in the extract
  • Parts of the duct nobody can reach yet

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Access surveys
  • Pre-clean surveys
  • Insurer audits
  • Wet film thickness tests
  • Post-clean checks
  • Deposit thickness tests

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Bentley and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. After the clean, we arrange a time to check the system.
  2. We open the access points used on the clean.
  3. Grease readings are taken again at set points.
  4. We photograph each area to record how it was left.
  5. The results are reported, with anything missed flagged.

How to prepare

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Find the previous report, if there is one
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

How to get a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, next to our reports.

Grease, kitchens and Bentley

Food Standards Agency records list about 7 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Bentley. A WFTT or DTT reading tells each of those kitchens whether its grease is staying under the 200-micron mean. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service covers Bentley. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Brentwood council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Bentley. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

For schools such as Becket Keys Church of England School, kitchen extract cleaning is normally booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Paul or elsewhere in Bentley, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. A hospital like Brentwood Community Hospital, about 2.8 miles south-east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Bentley is about 2 miles north-west of Brentwood, in Essex. Whether your site is in the middle of Bentley or further out, we cover TR19 inspection for every kind of premises, from small sites to large estates. 644 places in Essex are on our list, large and small. Our Chelmsford page covers sites nearby (11 miles or so).

We work across the CM14 and CM15 postcode area for TR19 inspection and the streets around it. Streets in the area include Mores Lane and Ashwells Road, all of which we cover for TR19 inspection. Other places close to Bentley include Navestock Side (1 mile north-west), Coxtie Green (1 mile south), Doddinghurst Common (1 mile north-east), Horseman Side (1 mile west) and Crow Green (1 mile east). We also work in nearby towns such as Chelmsford (11 miles north-east), Basildon (10 miles south-east), Harlow (11 miles north-west), Billericay (7 miles east), Rayleigh (15 miles east) and Loughton (8 miles west).

What affects the cost of TR19 inspection

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • The size of the system

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, send us:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your photos and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before we start.

How the job changes from site to site

Extract fan and discharge

The discharge at the end of the system is checked as well, since grease reaches the very end of the system.

Vertical risers

Risers in multi-storey buildings can pass through other areas, so we arrange access ahead of time.

Your questions about TR19 inspection in Bentley

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Bentley?

Fire safety enforcement in Bentley is handled by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Which environmental health team covers Bentley?

The local authority for Bentley is Brentwood council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. We run scheduled maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system needs. Each report recommends when the next visit should be.

Can the work be done while we are closed?

Yes, and it’s often the best time. The visit is timed for when the area is not in use, whether that is late evening, overnight or a weekend.

What accreditations do you have?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.

How long does a TR19 inspection take?

As a guide, it takes an hour or two for a single kitchen, longer for a large or complex system. The size of the system and the access make the difference.
