Kitchen extract cleaning in MK12: how it works

Cooking sends fat-laden vapour into the canopy with every service. It cools inside the duct and settles as a sticky film that thickens month by month. That layer will burn, and cleaning the whole system is how you keep it under control. We’re often asked to deal with extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit and years of baked-on grease in the ducts, across discharge points, horizontal duct runs and canopies and hoods.

Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and it goes on the report too. The visit takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the system and how it’s reached.
  2. Grease readings set the baseline, and a fixed quote follows.
  3. We arrive after close, protect the area and contain the waste.
  4. The treatment: heavy grease scraped out, then every part degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. Then the clean bill of health: readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next date.

What you will pay

What you pay depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Kitchen extracts across MK12

Across MK12, from Bradwell, Old Wolverton and Two Mile Ash outwards, kitchens range from town-centre restaurants and takeaways to pubs, hotels, schools and care homes. Each extract is cleaned to the same TR19® standard, canopy to discharge.

From central London kitchens to coastal hotels and country pubs, London and the South East have every kind of site. Wherever the site is in MK12, the work is done to the same TR19® standard.

Old Wolverton: If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Holy Trinity Church or elsewhere in Old Wolverton, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Wyvern School or anywhere near Old Wolverton, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.

Why it fails

A lot of duct grease gets there because the filters let it through. Damaged, missing or overloaded filters let grease straight past, and it does not stop until it reaches the fan.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Stale cooking odours from the system
  • Years of baked-on grease in the ducts
  • A smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction
  • A kitchen with no current TR19 certificate

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work will not fix:

  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link
  • A canopy that’s too small or a system that was badly designed
  • Damaged duct sections that need replacing

Different parts, different methods

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, including the filter housing.

Restaurant and pub kitchens

Grills, fryers and woks send a lot of fat into the extract, and measured readings show whether the minimum interval is enough.

What your team can do, and what needs us

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

The price is fixed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The scale of the work
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • A single visit or a regular plan

A single site or a whole portfolio, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You will have a fixed price before any work starts.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Any previous report or certificate

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We usually come back within one working day.

FAQs for MK12

Where does the waste go?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

Do you clean the whole extract system or just the canopy?

The whole system: the canopy, the plenum behind the filters, the filters, horizontal ducts, vertical risers, the fan and the discharge, plus attenuators where fitted. Any part without access is noted.

What information do you need?

A short description and a few photos, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, such as extra access panels in ductwork.

Which kinds of sites do you work on?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. We work with hotels, schools, care homes, offices, retail and leisure sites.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, where the pictures show enough. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Every job is surveyed first, from your pictures and details, or with a visit where necessary. Then you get a fixed quote.
