Kitchen extract cleaning in HP12: how it works
The ducts are where most of the grease hides. Access panels let us into the duct runs and risers, scraping heavy deposits by hand before degreasing. Anything out of reach is noted in the report, and new panels can be fitted. The work covers plenums and filters, discharge points and vertical risers, and common reasons people get in touch are grease smells coming from the extract and extraction mentioned at an environmental health visit.
There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with pictures. The middle part takes longest, which takes one visit for most kitchens, while large or complex systems may need more than one.
- You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and give you a fixed quote.
- On the night, the equipment is off and cool and the kitchen is sheeted.
- We work through the system from the canopy to the fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, pictures taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
What affects the price in HP12

Getting a quote
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your pictures and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. After that, you get a fixed price for the work, before work begins.
Around Booker
In Booker, that means kitchens and buildings near The Squirrel pub, Booker Hill School and Cressex Community School and the streets around them. Booker’s nearest station is High Wycombe station, roughly 2.1 miles east. Other landmarks nearby include Wycombe Hospital (1.6 miles east) and Chiltern Sound Phonograph Museum (3.3 miles south). Open spaces near Booker include Gomm's Wood.
Kitchen extract cleaning across HP12: local notes
In HP12, we work in places such as High Wycombe and Booker and well beyond. Every place on our HP12 list (2 in all) is covered, with cleans booked around trading hours.
In England, the Fire Safety Order puts the duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, and each certificate and photo report is a record you can keep in your log book.
Booker: Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of Christ the Servant King or anywhere around Booker, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Term dates shape school work: for a school like Booker Hill School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.
What affects the quote in HP12
You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:
- What state the system is in
- The number of sites or systems
- Travel, parking and unloading
- Site rules, permits and inductions
Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.
What to send for a quote
Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Where the site is and what kind of site it is
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
Need a price for kitchen extract cleaning? Please give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with a few details about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before anything is booked.
Multi-site and managed buildings
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.
What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than book work that will not help, so these are the things it won’t cover:
- A grease trap that needs emptying
- Damaged duct sections that need replacing
- A broken extract fan that won’t run
What staff can safely do
Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.
Different parts, different methods
Ductwork and risers
Bends and changes of direction trap more grease than straight runs. We test at points like these before and after cleaning, so the report shows the difference.
Grease filters
Between TR19 cleans, filters still need regular cleaning and we offer a filter exchange service for that. Clean filters slow the build-up further down the system.
HP12: your questions answered
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost in HP12?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. For a quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and tell us about the site and its opening hours.
What does TR19 mean?
BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification in two main parts: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It is not legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.
Can one contract cover all our sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.
How often should a kitchen extract be cleaned?
That comes down mainly to daily cooking hours. BESA’s minimums run from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.
What accreditations do you hold?
As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, our work sits within an independently audited scheme. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.
Do insurers need proof of extract cleaning?
Grease-filled ducts can carry fire well beyond the kitchen. Many insurers require TR19 cleaning, and may refuse or reduce a claim without proof, so keep every certificate.
