Kitchen extract cleaning in The Hummicks

We’ve been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. If you are dealing with stale cooking odours from the system and an overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer, we can put it right. Some call it canopy cleaning, others extract cleaning or duct cleaning, but a proper TR19® clean in The Hummicks covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.

Most kitchens in The Hummicks fall into one of BESA’s three bands: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, with grease readings setting the real interval.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.

We’ve been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Grease, kitchens and The Hummicks

Sea air reaches The Hummicks, which sits within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Look up The Hummicks on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 6 restaurants, cafés and works canteens in The Hummicks and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Every kitchen in that count with a canopy has a full extract system, canopy to discharge, to keep clear of grease. Environmental health officers from New Forest council inspect food businesses in The Hummicks. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Lymington New Forest Hospital is the nearest hospital to The Hummicks, about 5.9 miles south-west. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of the Blessed Virgin and Child or elsewhere in The Hummicks, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

The Hummicks is about 4 miles south-west of Hythe, in Hampshire. The Hummicks gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our Hampshire coverage runs to 683 places, The Hummicks among them. There’s also a page for Southampton, about 7 miles away.

Here we cover the SO42 postcode area for kitchen extract cleaning. Nearby, we also carry out kitchen extract cleaning in Bailey's Hard (1 mile south-west), Beaulieu (1 mile north-west), East Boldre (2 miles west), Furzey Lodge (2 miles west) and Dibden Purlieu (3 miles north). Larger places within reach include Gosport (12 miles east), Eastleigh (11 miles north), Fareham (11 miles east), Totton (8 miles north-west), Chandler's Ford (12 miles north) and Hedge End (9 miles north-east).

Around The Hummicks

We work in commercial kitchens and buildings around The New Forest Academy and The Montagu Arms and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Beaulieu Road station, about 4.2 miles north-west. A little further out are Beaulieu Abbey And Display Of Monastic Life (1.1 miles north-west) and Lymington New Forest Hospital (5.9 miles south-west).

The Hummicks questions

Who is the fire and rescue service for The Hummicks?

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for The Hummicks. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

Do you cover smaller places like The Hummicks?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, The Hummicks included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Does the law say I must clean to TR19?

No law names TR19 directly, but the responsible person still has a legal duty under the Fire Safety Order 2005. TR19 is the standard insurers and fire officers expect, and many policies require it.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

How far ahead should we book?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Tell us your preferred dates when you ask for a quote, and for anything urgent, ring our 24/7 emergency line.

How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost in The Hummicks?

Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote and we’ll normally reply within one working day.

Can you price the work without visiting?

Yes, for many jobs. Send a few wide pictures plus close-ups of panels, filters or grilles, and we usually come back within one working day. Some sites still need a visit, and we’ll say so.

What does a TR19 kitchen extract clean include?

Every part the air passes through, as far as access allows. Where there are not enough access panels to reach a section, it’s recorded, and we can fit new ones.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Shared systems, like a riser serving several units, need a clear agreement on who books the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

When to call us in The Hummicks

What’s on the menu matters as much as how much is cooked. Fryers, grills and open flames throw much more fat into the extract than gentler cooking, so two kitchens with the same hours can need very different intervals.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
  • Grease drips onto cooking equipment
  • Grease smells coming from the extract
  • Missing paperwork after a change of operator

Beaulieu Palace House, about 0.9 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses near The Hummicks; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

Before booking anyone

  • What paperwork you get at the end
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed

Questions to ask before you book

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Different parts, different methods

Schools, hospitals and care homes

In a care home or hospital, the kitchen may cook every day of the year. We plan the clean around meal times and work in a contained, tidy way with as little disruption as possible.

Canopy and plenum

Grease meets the system first at the canopy and the plenum behind the filters. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, including the filter housing.

Leave it or put it right?

If there’s a fire and the extract hasn’t been cleaned, the paperwork becomes the problem. Many policies require cleaning to TR19, and an insurer can refuse or reduce a claim without proof. A certificate in the file answers that question. Planning a trip to The Hummicks ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What affects the cost of kitchen extract cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Travel, parking and unloading
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • The scale of the work

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, send us:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • A few general shots of the system
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

To get a fixed quote, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes anything from a few hours to a full night, depending on the size of the system. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near The Hummicks, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We start with a survey, so we know every part of the system before we quote.
  2. Set points are tested for grease thickness and the quote is fixed before work begins.
  3. With the kitchen closed and equipment off and cool, the area is sheeted.
  4. We clean the canopy, plenum, filters, ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
  5. We test again, photograph the result and issue your TR19 certificate and photo report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear the space around the work

Ask for a quote

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. We look at your system first, from photos or on a visit, then send a fixed quote. To start, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
