Kitchen duct cleaning in The Frenches
We have been trading since 2009, cleaning kitchen extracts across the South East and London. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 and are fully insured. If you’re dealing with a new tenancy or takeover with no cleaning history and grease drips onto cooking equipment, we can put it right, from horizontal duct runs, vertical risers and canopies and hoods onwards. Canopy cleaning, extract cleaning and duct cleaning are often used to mean the same thing, but a proper TR19® clean in The Frenches covers all of it, from the hood to the fan.
BESA sets minimum intervals by hours of cooking a day: every 3 months for 12–16 hours, every 6 months for 6–12 hours and every 12 months for 2–6 hours, adjusted by what the grease readings show.
Work in a small place like The Frenches starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

What happens on the day
The visit has three parts: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes a single shift for most kitchens, with long duct runs and tall risers needing more time. For a village or hamlet like The Frenches, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- You send photos or we visit, and the system is surveyed from canopy to discharge.
- We take grease readings at set points and send you a fixed quote.
- The kitchen is closed, the equipment cooled and everything nearby protected.
- Filters, canopy and plenum are cleaned, then the ducts, risers, fan and discharge.
- Readings are repeated, photos taken, and your TR19 certificate and photo report issued.
Before we arrive
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
- Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Get a fixed quote
Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
Advice
What kitchen extract cleaning cannot fix
We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:
- Faulty fire dampers in the duct
- A duct that’s holed or coming apart
- A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly.

What kitchen extract cleaning looks like in The Frenches
The Frenches is covered by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Environmental health officers from Test Valley council inspect food businesses in The Frenches. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of All Saints or elsewhere in The Frenches, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to The Frenches is Romsey Community Hospital, about 3.4 miles east. If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around The Frenches (Mottisfont Abbey is about 3.1 miles north), fitting access panels needs care.
The Frenches is about 3 miles west of Romsey, in Hampshire. We provide kitchen extract cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in The Frenches and the rest of Hampshire. The Frenches is one of 683 towns, villages and districts in Hampshire where we work for kitchen extract cleaning. Our Southampton page covers sites nearby, about 9 miles away.
Every address in SO51 is within our area for kitchen extract cleaning, from busy streets to back roads. If your site is just outside The Frenches, we cover Shootash (1 mile east), Plaitford Green (2 miles west), West Wellow (2 miles south-west), East Wellow (2 miles south) and Blackhill (3 miles south). We also work in nearby towns such as Winchester (11 miles east), Eastleigh (10 miles east), Andover (15 miles north), Totton (6 miles south-east), Chandler's Ford (8 miles east) and Hedge End (13 miles south-east).
Around The Frenches
For rail, the closest station is Mottisfont & Dunbridge station, about 2.5 miles north of the centre. Well-known places in the area include King Johns House (2.7 miles east) and Romsey Community Hospital (3.4 miles east). Open spaces near The Frenches include Copythorne Common.
Multi-site and managed buildings
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We can quote either party, and the report can go to both.
What your team can do, and what needs us
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Common questions in The Frenches
Which fire authority looks after The Frenches?
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for The Frenches. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can you get to a site in The Frenches?
Yes, The Frenches is part of our area, however small the site. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.
What about areas you can’t get to?
They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.
Do you work with multi-site operators?
Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.
Does the law say I must clean to TR19?
TR19® itself is not law. The law is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which makes the responsible person assess and reduce fire risk, and cleaning to TR19 is the recognised way to show you’ve dealt with extract grease.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
It depends on the site, so we quote each one individually. To get one, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, opening hours and a few photos.
Are you accredited for kitchen extract cleaning?
Our work is to BESA TR19® Grease, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, and certificates go through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Ring any time and tell us what’s happened.
How we price kitchen extract cleaning
Every site gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The times the site is available
- What state the system is in
- The scale of the work
- The number of sites or systems
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are not sure what’s needed, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will give you an honest view and a fixed quote.
Asking for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow
- How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
Quotes are quick. Send a few details and photos, and we normally reply with a fixed quote within one working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits the site.

Different parts, different methods
Extract fan and discharge
Attenuators, where fitted, can soak up grease and need attention. Where they can be cleaned, they are, and the report notes anything that cannot.
Schools, hospitals and care homes
School kitchens can look lightly used but still need a TR19 clean at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. School holidays are an easy time to do it.
What happens if it’s left?
Grease build-up causes everyday problems too. Blocked filters and narrowed ducts slow the airflow, leaving the kitchen hot and smoky, while the fan works harder to move less air. Smells, dripping grease and condensation often follow. In a small place like The Frenches, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
