Kitchen extract cleaning in Shalden

TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in Shalden

The canopy over the range is only the start of a kitchen extract system. Beyond the filters run the plenum, the ducts and risers, the fan and the point where air leaves the building, and grease settles in every one of them. Our clean follows the air from canopy to discharge, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We are often asked to deal with grease smells coming from the extract and an extract that has never been cleaned to TR19, across extract fans, horizontal duct runs and discharge points. For TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in Shalden, you get one team and one number for every site.

Before we clean, we look at where the grease is: wet film or deposit thickness readings show which parts of the duct need the most attention, and the same readings after the clean show the result.

In a village or hamlet like Shalden, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease.

It’s worth checking any contractor’s accreditations. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, with full insurance on top.

What kitchen extract cleaning looks like in Shalden

Shalden sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Shalden, about 45 miles from central London, is within our usual area. A survey and a fixed quote come first, then the visit at a time that suits you.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of St Peter and St Paul or anywhere around Shalden, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other. Older buildings often hide long, awkward duct runs, and if you run a kitchen at a historic venue in the area (Hall Place is about 2.5 miles south-west), access may need planning. A hospital like Alton Community Hospital, about 2.3 miles south, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Shalden is about 2 miles north-west of Alton, in Hampshire. We carry out kitchen extract cleaning for commercial premises of every kind in Shalden and the rest of Hampshire. Our area takes in 683 places across Hampshire, large and small. Reading is in our area too, around 19 miles away.

We work across GU34 for kitchen extract cleaning and the streets around it. If you need kitchen extract cleaning at premises on Southwood Road, Stancombe Lane and Shalden Lane or anywhere close by, we can help. Close by, we work in Shalden Green (1 mile north), Thedden (2 miles south-west), Beech (2 miles south), Bentworth (2 miles south-west) and Southrope (2 miles north-west). Further out, we also cover Basingstoke (8 miles north-west), Farnborough (13 miles north-east), Fleet (10 miles north-east), Aldershot (12 miles north-east), Petersfield (12 miles south) and Yateley (14 miles north-east).

Why act early in Shalden

TR19® is not law, but the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is. It puts a duty on the responsible person to assess and reduce fire risk, which in a kitchen includes the grease in the extract. TR19 is the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. Somewhere as small as Shalden, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

Common questions in Shalden

Do you cover smaller places like Shalden?

Yes, we work in villages as well as towns, and Shalden is covered. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Can you come to Shalden after we close?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The work in Shalden can fit around your hours. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

What happens to the waste?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

Do I have to clean my extract to TR19 by law?

The legal duty sits in the Fire Safety Order 2005 rather than in TR19 itself. TR19 is the industry benchmark for meeting that duty in a kitchen extract, and many insurers ask for proof of it.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The site address, the type of premises and your opening hours, plus pictures of the system and your last certificate or report if you have one.

What does TR19 mean?

BESA’s ventilation hygiene specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t legislation, but it’s the standard people check against.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so sites at different addresses can be planned together as one programme. Every site has its own report.

Between visits

A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. We recommend:

  • Do not let the canopy gutters overflow
  • Wipe the canopy down at the end of each day
  • Never cook with filters missing or out of place
  • Wash or exchange the filters often

If we couldn’t get into part of the duct, the report says so plainly. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.

Clean the grease filters often, not just on clean day. A filter that’s clean and seated properly stops more grease getting into the plenum, so the ductwork stays cleaner for longer.

What a clean won’t put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A fan motor or bearings that have failed (that needs a fan repair or replacement)
  • A duct that is holed or coming apart
  • A damper that sticks or has a damaged link

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Vertical risers
  • Discharge points
  • Extract fans
  • Canopies and hoods
  • Plenums and filters

What the work involves, part by part

Schools, hospitals and care homes

Even a kitchen that cooks only a few hours a day needs cleaning at least every 12 months under BESA guidance. School holidays are an easy time to do it.

Canopy and plenum

The canopy catches the vapour, and the plenum behind the filters is where it first condenses. Both are scraped and degreased inside and out, including the filter housing.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Facilities teams in offices, schools and healthcare sites book us too across Hampshire. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

The process

Every visit runs to the same pattern: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. For a village or hamlet like Shalden, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the whole system and its access points.
  2. We record grease levels at set points, then fix the price.
  3. After the kitchen closes, we sheet the area and set up to contain grease and water.
  4. Heavy deposits are scraped by hand and the system degreased to TR19® Grease.
  5. The sign-off: post-clean readings, a TR19 certificate and a photo report with the next clean date.

How to prepare

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool

Ask for a quote

We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, then send a fixed quote. To get going, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.
