For landlords and multi-site operators
For anyone managing more than one site, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.
TR19 kitchen extract cleaning in Midgham Green
Duct Doctor has been cleaning kitchen extract systems since 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, we clean to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’re fully insured, with CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers extract fans, horizontal duct runs and discharge points, and common reasons people get in touch are a smoky, hot kitchen with weak extraction and stale cooking odours from the system. Hood cleaning is where most enquiries from Midgham Green start: a clean that goes past the canopy into the duct and fan, backed by a certificate.
Access decides how thorough a clean can be. Where a duct run has no panels, we say so on the report and can fit new ones.
In a small place like Midgham Green, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Signs you need kitchen extract cleaning in Midgham Green
The type of cooking changes the amount of grease. Frying, grilling and roasting send far more fat into the canopy than steaming or boiling, which is why grease readings matter more than the calendar.
If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:
- Missing paperwork after a change of operator
- Fat running down the canopy edge
- A system with no record of a TR19 clean
- An overdue clean flagged by an EHO or fire officer
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Woolhampton C.E. Primary School or anywhere near Midgham Green, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the work can be done while the site is closed
- Proof of insurance
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- When the next visit should be, and why
The process
A visit follows the same order every time: sheeting and protection first, make the system safe, carry out the kitchen extract cleaning, clear away and hand over the paperwork. The visit itself takes as long as the system needs, from a few hours to several planned visits. Visits to a village like Midgham Green are booked in advance, at a time that suits whoever runs the site.
- We survey the system first, from your pictures and details or on a site visit.
- We measure the grease at set points along the system, then give you a fixed price.
- On the day, cooking equipment is switched off and left to cool, and everything nearby is sheeted.
- Canopy, plenum, filters, duct runs, risers, fan and discharge are all cleaned to TR19® Grease.
- Readings and photos are taken again, and you receive a TR19 certificate and photo report.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored near the system
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Looking after it afterwards
How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Make sure every filter is fitted before cooking
- Run the extract fan throughout cooking
- Keep the TR19 certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
- Give the canopy a daily wipe
Any section without access is marked on the report. A TR19 report should record what wasn’t cleaned as well as what was, and new access panels can be fitted so the next clean covers it.
Stick to the cleaning interval on the certificate. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval should be looked at again, and grease readings will show it.
What happens if it’s left?
Every week without a clean adds another layer. BESA guidance says the mean should not go above 200 microns between cleans, and anywhere reaching 500 microns or more needs a spot clean right away. Heavy build-up takes longer to remove than regular cleans. If the system at a site near Midgham Green fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and the price is agreed before we start.

What staff can safely do
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease need training, the right equipment and safe access. That is our job.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Midgham Green: your questions answered
Which council inspects kitchens in Midgham Green?
That’s West Berkshire council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Midgham Green. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Do you work at weekends in Midgham Green?
Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. Your customers, staff or residents in Midgham Green needn’t be disturbed. Let us know the hours you are closed and we’ll book within them.
What should I send you?
Some pictures and a quick description of the system, with the address and opening hours. We’ll ask for anything else we need.
What’s the right cleaning interval for a kitchen extract?
It depends on how many hours a day the kitchen cooks. Heavy use of 12 to 16 hours a day calls for a clean at least every 3 months under BESA guidance, and lighter use less often. Your report gives a recommended next clean date.
Do you offer emergency callouts?
Yes, 24/7. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
Is there a survey before the work?
Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey tells us what the system needs and how to reach it and the fixed quote is built on it.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
Restaurants and pubs, hotels, schools and colleges, hospitals and care homes, offices and retail, as well as food production and leisure sites.
Do you work in Midgham Green?
Yes. We cover Midgham Green and the rest of West Berkshire, as part of our work across South East England and London. For a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711, or send details by email.
