Grease trap cleaning in Worthy Down

Grease trap cleaning in Worthy Down, done properly

Grease is behind most blocked kitchen drains. Down the line, they can add to fatbergs in the sewer. A well-maintained trap holds them back. Common call-outs are for foul odours from the grease trap and a full, neglected grease trap, on inline grease traps, kitchen waste pipes and school and care home kitchens.

In a village or hamlet like Worthy Down, commercial kitchens are few, perhaps a pub, a school or a care home. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

When something else is needed

Grease trap cleaning can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Plumbing leaks around the sink
  • Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
  • A unit that cannot cope with the kitchen’s output

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Restaurants and takeaways
  • Under-sink grease traps
  • Kitchen waste pipes
  • Inline grease traps
  • Pot wash sinks
  • School and care home kitchens

What happens on the day

We are used to working while the site is closed. Evenings, nights and weekends are when much of our work happens, so a kitchen or building can carry on as usual the next day. On site, the work takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Worthy Down knowing what to expect.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. Grease and solids are removed from the trap.
  4. The chambers and baffles are cleaned.
  5. We refit it, run water through and remove the waste.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Find the previous report, if there is one

How to get a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in pictures, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.

Do you need grease trap cleaning in Worthy Down?

A busy kitchen in Worthy Down, or anywhere else, fills its grease trap faster. Traps sized for lighter use can fill very quickly when trade picks up.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • Foul odours from the grease trap
  • A grease trap that hasn’t been emptied in a long time
  • A slow-draining kitchen sink
  • Gurgling from the sink waste

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Royal Hampshire County Hospital (about 3.5 miles south), cook for long hours, so deep cleans and grease trap work are planned around patients’ meals.

Comparing quotes

  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • What insurance they carry
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

Worthy Down: your questions answered

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Worthy Down?

In Worthy Down, it’s Winchester City council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Keep the dates of your last deep clean and grease trap visit with your food safety records, ready if an officer asks.

Can you work in Worthy Down outside opening hours?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The work in Worthy Down can fit around your hours. Let us know the hours you’re closed and we will book within them.

Do you cover Worthy Down?

Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of South East England, and that includes Worthy Down.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes, any time. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

What paperwork should we keep on file?

Visit reports, certificates and your in-house cleaning logs. Insurers, fire officers and EHOs may all ask to see them, so keep them together and easy to find.

Are you accredited?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’re fully insured and have been trading since 2009.

What happens if you can’t reach some of it?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

What does a grease trap clean cost?

It depends on the type and size of the trap, its condition and access. Tell us about the trap and we’ll come back with a fixed price.

What the work involves, part by part

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Visits are booked when the sinks are not in use so you don’t lose trade.

Baffles and outlets

Clean water leaves through the outlet. If it’s blocked or greasy, the trap backs up.

Keeping the system healthy

To keep the system working properly between visits:

  • Make sure the trap can be reached easily
  • Report slow or smelly sinks early
  • Let us know if the kitchen gets busier
  • Never pour used oil down the sink

The sinks are ready to use as soon as we have finished. We run water through to check it drains before we go.

A trap that is left too long stops catching grease. Regular emptying keeps it working and avoids a blockage.

What staff can safely do

A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.

Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping down canopy surfaces, cleaning filters and keeping a simple log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, and that’s where we come in.
