Grease trap cleaning in Rownhams
A grease trap is the kitchen drain’s first line of protection. Kept clean, it does its job quietly, but neglected, it causes blockages and smells. Routine cleaning keeps it in good working order. The work covers under-sink grease traps, pot wash sinks and kitchen waste pipes, and the jobs we see most are foul odours from the grease trap and an interceptor full of grease and solids.
For a kitchen near Rownhams, deep cleans are booked around opening hours, often on a closed day, and the journey is planned ahead.
Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured.

Different parts, different methods
School, care home and staff kitchens
In schools, grease traps can be cleaned when the kitchen is closed or between meal services.
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
Visits are booked when the sinks aren’t in use so you do not lose trade.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Each visit produces a dated report with pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.
If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.
What a clean will not put right
Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:
- A unit that can’t cope with the kitchen’s output
- Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
- Plumbing leaks around the sink
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Kitchen waste pipes
- School and care home kitchens
- Restaurants and takeaways
- Inline grease traps
- Pot wash sinks
- Under-sink grease traps
How it works
Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. You only need to give us clear access and switch off what needs to be off. The visit takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Tell us about any gates, ladders or locked plant areas at your site near Rownhams when you book.
- We agree a time when the sinks aren’t needed.
- The trap is opened up and checked.
- We remove the grease layer and settled solids.
- The inside, baffles and outlet are cleaned.
- We close it up, check it drains and suggest when it needs cleaning again.
Getting ready for the visit
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
Getting a quote
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
Related advice
Common problems we fix in Rownhams
If a trap isn’t emptied, grease passes straight through. It goes on into the drain and the sewer beyond, where it can cause blockages.
The symptoms we are asked about most are:
- Gurgling from the sink waste
- A slow-draining kitchen sink
- An inline trap or interceptor due for cleaning
- A regular cleaning plan for the grease trap
School kitchens, at schools like Rownhams St John's Church of England Primary School for example, usually have their deep cleans and grease trap work done while the canteen is closed.

Common questions in Rownhams
Can you come to Rownhams after we close?
Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. Your customers, staff or residents in Rownhams needn’t be disturbed. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.
Will you come out to Rownhams?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Rownhams included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Are you insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we’ve been trading since 2009.
What happens to the waste?
We take it away at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained so the area stays clean.
Where does the grease from the trap go?
The fat, oil, grease and solids we remove go with us. It is not poured back down the drain at any point.
Do we lose a day’s trading?
Not usually. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we’re there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.
What is TR19?
It’s the industry benchmark for cleaning ventilation and kitchen extract systems, written by BESA. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
The report shows them clearly. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

Why act early in Rownhams
Grease that leaves the kitchen ends up somewhere. It adds to blockages further down the drains and sewer. Keeping it in the trap, and emptying the trap, is the responsible thing to do. Booking ahead lets us plan the trip to Rownhams at a time that suits you.
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before work begins.

What staff can safely do
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.
