Questions from North Street

Will you come out to North Street?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in North Street?

The local authority for North Street is Swale council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. Keep the dates of your last deep clean and grease trap visit with your food safety records, ready if an officer asks.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes, always. Diagnosis comes before treatment: the survey shows what needs doing and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes. If something urgent happens, like a fan failing or damage after a fire, call our 24/7 line, and we will advise on what to do next.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Duct Doctor is fully insured, and the details are available on request.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we’re fully insured.

What problems does a full grease trap cause?

Grease and food waste build up until the trap stops working. Slow drains, bad smells and blockages follow.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, with visits on a regular schedule.

Grease trap cleaning in North Street, done properly

Grease trap cleaning keeps the drains running and the smells away. We empty the built-up grease and food solids, clean the inside and the baffles and the trap checked before we leave. Common call-outs are for gurgling drains in the kitchen and an interceptor full of grease and solids, across school and care home kitchens, pot wash sinks and inline grease traps.

Somewhere as small as North Street, the kitchens that need a deep clean are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

The sign-off is always in writing: a dated report with pictures of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

For landlords and multi-site operators

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare across Kent. Larger estates can be phased building by building around the people who use them.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Grease trap cleaning in North Street: local notes

Food Standards Agency data counts about 3 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of North Street. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. It’s Swale council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in North Street. Grease behind equipment or on a ceiling is the kind of thing an inspection can note. Having the dates of the last deep clean to hand saves digging for them on the day. About 45 miles out from central London, North Street is part of the South East area we work across. The visit is fixed around your opening hours, not ours.

For schools such as Sheldwich Primary School, deep cleans and grease trap work are typically booked for the holidays. Hall and church kitchens, near Church of St James or anywhere around North Street, are used by many hands, and periodic deep cleans and grease trap visits keep them in order.

Fixed quotes for grease trap cleaning in North Street

Sites vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Site rules, permits and inductions

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

What to send for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see
  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall

To get a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

Common problems we fix in North Street

The more a kitchen cooks and washes up, the quicker the trap fills. A trap that suited a quieter kitchen can struggle when cooking increases.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • A blocked kitchen drain caused by grease
  • Drains that gurgle and bubble
  • A routine grease trap service
  • A bad smell from the sinks or drains

If you run event catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Belmont House and Gardens is about 2 miles south-west), a deep clean before or after the busy season is worth planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether a written report and photos are included
  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

Questions to ask before booking

Aftercare tips

No system stays clean for ever, but care slows the build-up. Our tips:

  • Keep waste oil out of the drains
  • Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
  • Tell us if your menu or hours change
  • Keep the grease trap on a regular cleaning schedule

Anything we notice beyond the trap, like a slow drain downstream, is pointed out. That may need a drainage contractor to investigate.

More cooking means more grease in the trap. Booking cleans more often keeps the drains flowing.

How the job changes from site to site

Restaurant and takeaway kitchens

Kitchens that fry and wash up all day fill their traps quickly. They often need the most frequent cleaning.

Under-sink grease traps

Under-sink traps are compact units fitted below the kitchen sink. They fill quickly, so they need frequent emptying.

What happens if it’s left?

Once the trap is full, grease heads for the drain. It hardens on the pipe walls, until the drain blocks. Regular trap cleaning beats dealing with a blockage. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so there are no surprises.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool first, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes an hour or two in most kitchens, depending on the size and condition of the trap. Somewhere as small as North Street, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
  2. We ask for the sinks that drain into the trap not to be used.
  3. The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
  4. Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
  5. We put it back together, run water through and remove the waste.

Before we arrive

  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Tell us where we can park and unload

Getting a quote

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before work begins.
