Grease trap cleaning in Murston, done properly
A grease trap is the kitchen drain’s first line of protection. When it’s looked after, you hardly know it’s there but left too long, it causes trouble. Routine cleaning keeps it in good working order. Common call-outs are for gurgling from the sink waste and a kitchen drain that smells, on pot wash sinks, school and care home kitchens and kitchen waste pipes.
For a kitchen near Murston, deep cleans are booked around opening hours, often on a closed day, and the journey is planned ahead.
For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and photos, and grease extract cleans come with a TR19® certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Part by part
Restaurant and takeaway kitchens
Busy kitchens can’t afford a blocked drain. Regular trap cleaning helps prevent it.
Baffles and outlets
We check the inlet, outlet and baffles at each clean so the trap works as it should.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Murston
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
When it’s something else
We will not sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:
- A trap undersized for the amount of cooking
- Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
- A leaking sink waste or trap connection
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.
What the work covers
- School and care home kitchens
- Pot wash sinks
- Under-sink grease traps
- Restaurants and takeaways
- Kitchen waste pipes
- Inline grease traps
What happens if it’s left?
A full grease trap lets grease through to the drains. There it sets and narrows the pipe, until the drain blocks. Cleaning the trap regularly is far easier than clearing a blocked drain. It’s easy to lose track of when the work was last done on a quieter site.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What happens on the day
The first job on site is protection: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Tell us about any gates, ladders or locked plant areas at your site near Murston when you book.
- First, we locate the grease trap and look at the pipework around it.
- The sinks feeding the trap are kept out of use while we work.
- Built-up fat, oil and grease is removed from the trap.
- Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
- The trap is reassembled, checked for leaks and the waste taken away.
Before we arrive
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Agree a time when the area can be out of use
- Let us know about parking and loading
Getting a quote
Photos are the quickest way to a quote: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.

What we’re called out for in Murston
Hot washing-up water keeps grease liquid for a while. Once it cools, it sets, often in the trap or the pipe beyond.
The symptoms we are asked about most include:
- A slow-draining kitchen sink
- An under-sink unit that needs regular emptying
- A bad smell from the sinks or drains
- A larger grease trap that needs emptying
A summer deep clean suits schools such as Sunny Bank Primary School, as the kitchen can be stripped back with no lunches to serve.
What to look for in a quote
- How VAT is shown on the quote
- Whether they’re fully insured
- If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
- Proof of accreditation you can verify
How we price grease trap cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- The condition we find in the survey
- Travel, parking and unloading
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Whether several sites go on one quote
The cost depends on the size of the system, the condition it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.
Helping us quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- A few general shots of the system
- Problems your staff have spotted
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 69 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 36 sandwich bars and takeaways in and around Murston, up to about a mile and a half out. Kitchens like these wash fat, oil and grease down the sink every day, and a grease trap is what stops it reaching the sewer. Environmental health officers from Swale council inspect food businesses in Murston. They look at the cleanliness of the whole kitchen: walls, floors, ceilings and equipment. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.

Murston questions
Can you get to a site in Murston?
Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Murston included. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Murston?
Kitchens in Murston are inspected by Swale council’s environmental health officers. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.
Can you set up regular visits?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
How long does a grease trap clean take?
Each trap is a little different, but a clean generally takes a short visit for a small trap and longer for an inline unit or interceptor. We’ll confirm when we quote.
What types of grease trap do you clean?
We clean all the common types. A photo helps us see what’s fitted and we will confirm.
How do you protect the area?
Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.
How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?
It varies with the trap and the kitchen. If the sinks start to drain slowly between cleans, it’s too long and we will adjust the schedule.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We carry full insurance, and we’ve been trading since 2009.
