Grease trap cleaning for sites in Lower Bush

Lower Bush kitchens: local notes

Food Standards Agency records list about 3 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 7 sandwich bars and takeaways in Lower Bush and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. A grease trap in kitchens like these fills steadily and needs emptying before it overflows. Food hygiene inspections in Lower Bush are the job of Medway council’s environmental health team. Walls, floors, ceilings and equipment are all part of what they look at. Keeping a record of deep cleans and grease trap visits helps at inspection time.

Where a church or community hall near Church of St Michael and All Angels, or anywhere in Lower Bush, has a kitchen used by volunteers, a periodic deep clean keeps it ready for the next event. Starkey Castle, about 1.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses around Lower Bush; event kitchens at places like that work in bursts, so a deep clean after a busy season helps. Half-term is a good time for school kitchens, at schools like Cuxton Community Infant School for instance, to have the grease trap emptied and the kitchen deep cleaned.

About our grease trap cleaning in Lower Bush

Every trap is different. Under-sink traps are compact and need frequent attention, while inline traps and interceptors hold more. We look at the trap, how much the kitchen uses it and how quickly it fills before suggesting how often it needs cleaning. The work covers inline grease traps, school and care home kitchens and kitchen waste pipes, and common reasons people get in touch are a bad smell from the sinks or drains and drains clogged with fat.

In a village or hamlet like Lower Bush, commercial kitchens are few, perhaps a pub, a school or a care home. Each still needs the occasional deep clean and its grease trap kept clear.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: a dated report with pictures of the work, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

What happens on the day

Your staff don’t need to do much on the day. Someone lets us in at the agreed time and shows us where everything is, and the rest is down to us. Afterwards, the area is left tidy and the written report follows. Photos of the system and how to reach it help us plan a visit to Lower Bush.

  1. We locate the trap and check how it’s fitted.
  2. Sinks feeding the trap are taken out of use.
  3. We empty out the fat, oil, grease and solids.
  4. We clean every part of the inside.
  5. We refit it, run water through and remove the waste.

How to prepare

Ask for a quote

For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and tell us the type of site, your opening hours and roughly what the system looks like. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll normally have a quote within one working day.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so records stay tidy.

When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.

Your questions about grease trap cleaning in Lower Bush

Who inspects food businesses in Lower Bush?

Food hygiene inspections in Lower Bush are carried out by Medway council. Photos from a deep clean are a simple record of what was done and when.

Do you work at weekends in Lower Bush?

Yes, out-of-hours work is a big part of what we do. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How do you protect the area?

Protection goes down first: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

How regularly does a grease trap need emptying?

There’s no single answer. The interval depends on how quickly your trap fills and we will advise on timing.

How long does a grease trap clean take?

A typical clean takes less than an hour for many under-sink units including checking it drains. It’s booked when the sinks aren’t needed.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not normally. We work when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends, so you keep your normal hours.

What types of grease trap do you clean?

Both under-sink and inline traps, plus interceptors. If you are not sure what you have, send us a photo when you phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us.

What do you do with what you remove?

It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it doesn’t spread.

Why deal with it now?

In Lower Bush, as anywhere, grease trap cleaning is a short, routine visit. Waiting for a blockage turns it into an urgent problem and normally at the worst moment. With notice, the visit to Lower Bush can be fitted around your bookings and events.

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered and we will price it together.

Different parts, different methods

Grease interceptors

An interceptor works on the same principle as a smaller trap. Cooling water lets grease rise and solids settle.

Baffles and outlets

Baffles inside the trap slow the water so grease can separate. They gather grease and debris, so we clean them.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Act on gurgling or smelly drains
  • Don’t wait for a blockage to book a clean
  • Make sure the trap can be reached easily
  • Mention any increase in cooking

Scrape plates into the bin before washing up. Use strainers in the sink plugholes so less solid waste gets through.

If the sinks are slow or smelly, the trap may be full. Getting it cleaned now can stop a full blockage later.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

When something else is needed

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • A grease trap that’s too small for the kitchen
  • Grease deep in the drains, which needs jetting by a drainage contractor
  • Leaking pipework or sink wastes, which need a plumber

If you’re not sure, just call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.
