Heybridge: your questions answered
Can you get to a site in Heybridge?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.
Can school kitchens in Heybridge be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. There are about 10 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Heybridge. You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the dates the site is empty.
How long does a grease trap clean take?
The size and state of the trap make the difference, and you can expect it to take less than an hour for many under-sink units. We’ll confirm when we quote.
Do I get a report after the visit?
Yes, on every job. It’s a dated, written report with pictures, and TR19® Grease cleans come with a certificate through the BESCA VHE portal. File it with your fire safety records.
What is TR19?
A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extracts and TR19® Air for supply and extract systems. It is not law, but it’s the benchmark.
Can you clear our blocked drains as well?
It depends where the blockage is. If the trap is full, cleaning it often helps, but blockages further along need a drainage contractor.
What’s the right interval for grease trap cleaning?
The right interval depends on your trap and your cooking. Slow or smelly sinks between cleans mean it needs doing more often, and we can shorten it.
Do we need to stop using the sinks while you work?
Only briefly, and only the sinks that feed the trap. We plan the visit for a quieter time wherever possible.
How we handle grease trap cleaning in Heybridge
Once a trap is full, grease passes straight through. Fat sets in the pipes downstream, leading to slow drains, blockages and smells. A trap that is cleaned regularly keeps grease where it belongs. If you’re dealing with a blocked kitchen drain caused by grease and a small trap that fills too quickly, we can put it right, from inline grease traps, kitchen waste pipes and school and care home kitchens onwards.
In a place like Heybridge, kitchens often sit in older buildings with older drains. Smells and slow drains are the usual warning signs.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Heybridge kitchens: local notes
The FSA’s data shows about 21 pubs and bars and about 4 hotels, B&Bs and guest houses registered across Heybridge and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving food has a kitchen that collects grease out of sight and drains that need protecting. Kitchens in Heybridge get their food hygiene inspections from Maldon council. An inspection covers the structure of the kitchen as well as the food. A record of each deep clean helps show the kitchen is kept in order.
Hall and church kitchens, near Church of St Andrew or anywhere around Heybridge, are used by many hands, and periodic deep cleans and grease trap visits keep them in order.

Honest limits
In fairness, there are a few things this work won’t fix:
- Blockages in the public sewer beyond the property
- Grease set hard in the drain run
- Plumbing leaks around the sink
If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.
What the work covers
- Under-sink grease traps
- Inline grease traps
- Restaurants and takeaways
- School and care home kitchens
- Pot wash sinks
- Kitchen waste pipes
Keeping the system healthy
A little care between visits keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:
- Hot water only moves grease further down
- Tell us if your menu or hours change
- Tell us when sinks start draining slowly
- Do not wait for a blockage to book a clean
Between cleans, keep food scraps out of the sink. Sink strainers help catch solids so less solid waste gets through.
An overfull trap lets grease pass. Cleaning it before it’s full keeps grease out of the drains and avoids a blockage.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
Part by part
School, care home and staff kitchens
Kitchens with fixed mealtimes build up grease more predictably. Planned cleaning fits their routine.
Baffles and outlets
The baffles hold back grease while water flows on. They gather grease and debris so they’re cleaned every time.
How the visit works
Before we leave, we walk the area with whoever is on site. Anything we couldn’t reach or that needs attention is pointed out there and then, and it goes on the report too. All told, the work takes an hour or so for an under-sink trap, longer for a larger unit. Your opening hours decide when we come to Heybridge, not ours.
- We find the trap and check how it’s connected.
- Nothing drains into the trap while it’s open.
- The trap is emptied of grease and food waste.
- Every part of the trap is scraped and cleaned, including the baffles.
- Once it’s refitted, water is run through to check it drains, and we take the waste with us.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need

What staff can safely do
If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We can diagnose it and quote.
Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings need training, the right equipment and safe access. Leave those to us.
