About our grease filter exchange in Dunkirk
Each visit is quick and tidy. The greasy filters come out, clean ones go in, and we check they’re seated with no gaps. Anything that needs attention is pointed out. The work covers island canopies, baffle filters and restaurants and pubs, and people most often call us about filters that leave gaps in the canopy and grease filters clogged with grease.
In a village or hamlet like Dunkirk, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.
Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured. On top of that, we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

How the job changes from site to site
Mesh filters
Mesh traps grease between its layers, which makes hand-washing hard work.
Baffle filters
Baffle filters are a common choice for commercial canopies. They still need regular cleaning, because the grease they collect builds up.
Why it’s worth doing now in Dunkirk
A filter exchange is a few minutes; a choked extract affects a whole service. Few maintenance jobs are as easy and few are as easy to forget. In a small place like Dunkirk, a system that fails can take a site out of use.
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.
Why us?
- A written report with pictures after each visit
- Fixed quotes, typically within one working day
- One number for every site across the South East and London
- CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, with ISO 9001

The process
When we arrive, we check the system against the survey or the pictures you sent. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. A few pictures of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Dunkirk.
- We start by noting how many filters you have and what type they are.
- We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
- On each visit, the dirty filters come out of the canopy.
- Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
- Anything we notice, such as bent filters or a dirty plenum, is pointed out.
Preparing for the visit
- Find the previous report, if there is one
- Let us know about parking and loading
- Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
How to get a quote

Advice
Kitchen extracts in Dunkirk
The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 5 restaurants, cafés and canteens within 1.5 miles or so of the middle of Dunkirk. Each canopy among them has filters that load with grease and need swapping or cleaning. Dunkirk is covered by Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. In Dunkirk, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Swale council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.
If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Christ Church or elsewhere in Dunkirk, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.
Dunkirk is about 4 miles south-east of Faversham, in Kent. Dunkirk gets the same approach as every site we work on: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, and Dunkirk is one of them. We also work in Maidstone, around 20 miles away.
All of ME13 is within our area for grease filter exchange, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We cover sites on London Road and Courtenay Road and the roads around them. If your site is just outside Dunkirk, we cover Boughton under Blean (1 mile west), Winterbourne (1 mile south-west), Hickmans Green (1 mile west), Oversland (1 mile south-west) and South Street (2 miles south-west). Larger places within reach include Ashford (12 miles south-west), Canterbury (5 miles east), Sittingbourne (11 miles west), Whitstable (5 miles north-east), Faversham (4 miles north-west) and Herne Bay (9 miles north-east).
Around Dunkirk
In Dunkirk, that means kitchens and buildings near The Red Lion pub and Mount Ephraim Gardens and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Selling station, roughly 1.9 miles south-west of the centre. A little further out are Chilham Castle (3.5 miles south) and Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr (4.4 miles east). For a walk, there’s Blean Woods RSPB Reserve.
What we are called out for in Dunkirk
Cooking vapour carries grease into the canopy. The filters catch much of it, and day by day they load up and airflow falls away.
Any of these means the system needs a check-up:
- Missing filters in the filter bank
- Staff short of time to wash filters
- Grease collecting in the filter channels
- Filters so greasy the air can barely pass
Kitchens that cook twelve hours or more a day, as some healthcare kitchens do, fall into BESA’s three-monthly minimum; Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr is the nearest hospital to Dunkirk, about 4.4 miles east.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is included
- Whether the price is fixed
- How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

What staff can safely do
Day-to-day cleaning is something your team can do: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that is where we come in.
In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.
Dunkirk: your questions answered
Which environmental health team covers Dunkirk?
That is Swale council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Dunkirk. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.
Who enforces fire safety at workplaces in Dunkirk?
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Dunkirk. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.
Which kinds of sites do you work on?
All kinds of commercial and public premises: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
What does TR19 mean?
It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.
Do I get a report after the visit?
Yes. You get a written report with photos after every visit, showing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, there’s also a certificate issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.
What if some of our filters are damaged?
Filters that no longer fit properly need replacing. We will show you which ones on the visit.
What happens if you cannot reach some of it?
We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.
What happens to the waste?
It’s contained and taken away. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.
Aftercare tips
How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Never cook with the extract switched off
- Tell us if a filter is bent or damaged
- Watch for grease drips between visits
- Clean the canopy surfaces regularly
Once the clean filters are in, the kitchen can cook right away. The dirty set leaves with us for cleaning.
A kitchen that is getting busier needs its filters changed more often. Changing the interval early stops grease building up unseen behind the canopy.
