Grease filter exchange for sites in Downley

Grease filter exchange for kitchens and businesses in Downley

Washing filters in the kitchen sink is messy and easily missed on a busy week. With a filter exchange, we bring a clean set and take the dirty one away and the canopy is refilled right away. Common call-outs are for missing filters in the filter bank and grease building up behind the canopy filters, across wall canopies, baffle filters and mesh filters.

For a kitchen in or near Downley, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

A written report with pictures follows every visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What happens if it’s left?

Dripping canopies and greasy smells often start with the filters. Drips land on surfaces and equipment below, which an EHO may well notice. With notice, the visit to Downley can be fitted around your bookings and events.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Call for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. With shared responsibility, good records help everyone.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and photos, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

Downley kitchens: local notes

The Food Standards Agency lists about 9 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses across Downley and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Downley. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Food hygiene inspections in Downley are the job of Buckinghamshire council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Bursars and site managers at schools such as The Downley School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Hughenden Manor, about 0.8 miles east, is one of the historic houses near Downley; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

How we price grease filter exchange

You’ll get a fixed price before work begins. It takes into account:

  • What state the system is in
  • The number of sites or systems
  • The times the site is available
  • Travel, parking and unloading

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Close-ups of filters, grilles, hatches or access panels
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

Here’s what helps us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few photos and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

Signs you need grease filter exchange in Downley

Cooking vapour carries grease into the canopy. The filters catch much of it so they gradually clog and airflow falls away.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Staff short of time to wash filters
  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • Bent or damaged filters that do not sit properly
  • Grease filters clogged with grease

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Wycombe Hospital about 1.7 miles south-east, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Proof of insurance
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded

When it’s something else

Not every problem is solved by grease filter exchange, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:

  • A fan that’s failing or too weak for the system
  • Cooking smells reaching neighbours, which need odour control
  • A canopy that needs a proper clean

If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think.

How it works

The first job on site is protection: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. The work on site takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. Somewhere as small as Downley, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. We agree a schedule that suits how much the kitchen cooks.
  3. At each visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. Clean, dry filters are fitted in their place, with no gaps left between them.
  5. If a filter is damaged or the plenum needs attention, we tell you.

How to prepare

  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Downley questions

Do you cover smaller places like Downley?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Downley?

In Downley, it’s Buckinghamshire council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

What if some of our filters are damaged?

Each filter is looked at when we exchange. We tell you about any that are damaged, because gaps let grease into the plenum.

What happens if you cannot reach some of it?

We never leave them off the paperwork. You will know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

What accreditations do you have?

Duct Doctor is a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we carry full insurance.

Do we need to close the kitchen while filters are changed?

Not for long, and we can time it to avoid service. Cooking shouldn’t happen with the filters out, so we swap them in one go.

Do you recommend a next date?

Yes. The interval depends on how much the system is used and what we find, and we explain the reasoning on the report.

What happens to the dirty filters?

We take them away. That is the point of an exchange: you always have a clean set fitted and nothing greasy left on site.
