Grease filter exchange in Chalk

About our grease filter exchange in Chalk

Good filters only work when they fit properly. Gaps in the filter bank are a direct route into the plenum, so we check every one at each visit. Damaged filters are flagged so they can be replaced. Typical jobs include poor airflow through the filters and drips falling from the filters onto equipment, on wall canopies, mesh filters and restaurants and pubs.

For a kitchen in or near Chalk, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so records stay tidy.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.

FAQs for Chalk

Can sea air affect grease filter exchange in Chalk?

Yes, to a degree: at about 2 miles from the coast, Chalk gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. Rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings are checked for corrosion as well as grease.

Is Chalk within the area you cover?

Yes, Chalk is part of our area, however small the site. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

How do you protect the area?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before we start, and anything we remove is contained. Before we leave, we tidy up and clean down.

What does grease filter exchange cost?

Filters, canopies and how often you need visits all affect the price. Tell us what you have and we will come back with a fixed quote, typically within one working day.

What do you do with what you remove?

Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. None of it is left on site.

Where do the greasy filters go?

The greasy set leaves with us for cleaning, so your staff do not have to wash them. Clean filters go straight in.

What if some of our filters are damaged?

Damaged filters don’t seat properly and let grease through. We point them out on the visit and explain what’s needed.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and the details are available on request.

The process

At the end of the visit, someone from your team can look over the work with us. We point out anything that couldn’t be reached or needs a follow-up, and the same goes into the written report. The visit takes less than an hour in most kitchens. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Chalk can be planned properly.

  1. First, we record the size, type and number of filters in each canopy.
  2. A change schedule is agreed to match the kitchen’s cooking hours.
  3. At every visit, the greasy filters are lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go straight back in, seated properly with no gaps.
  5. We flag any damaged filters or anything wrong with the canopy.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Clear the space around the work

What the work involves, part by part

Busy restaurant and pub kitchens

High-output kitchens clog filters quickly. They often need the shortest exchange interval.

Mesh filters

Grease lodges deep in the layers of a mesh filter, which makes hand-washing hard work.

What a clean will not put right

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • A canopy that does not capture the vapour properly
  • Odours from the discharge that filters won’t stop
  • Greasy ducts and risers that a filter change won’t reach

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before booking.

What grease filter exchange looks like in Chalk

Chalk is within about 2 miles of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on rooftop fans, discharge cowls and fixings, so we check them for corrosion as well as grease. Food Standards Agency records list about 11 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 21 takeaways and sandwich shops within about 1.5 miles of central Chalk. Any of those kitchens with a canopy relies on its filters to catch grease before it reaches the duct. The fire and rescue service for Chalk is Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.

If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Thamesview School or anywhere near Chalk, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Gravesham Community Hospital about 2.1 miles north-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Cobham College is about 2.8 miles south), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Keeping the system healthy

So the system stays in good health:

  • Keep the extract on whenever the range is in use
  • Watch for grease drips between visits
  • Mention it if the kitchen gets busier
  • Wipe the outside of the canopy as part of daily cleaning

There’s no waiting: the canopy is ready as soon as the clean set is fitted. The dirty set leaves with us for cleaning.

Filter exchange and TR19 cleaning work best together. A maintenance plan that covers both means neither slips.

What happens if it’s left?

Some kitchens in Chalk wash filters themselves to save the cost of a service, and that can work if it’s done thoroughly and on time. When it does not happen reliably, an exchange makes it automatic. Rural sites cannot always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Why us?

  • Full insurance on every job
  • A BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease

Fixed quotes for grease filter exchange in Chalk

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • The condition we find in the survey
  • Site requirements such as sign-in and permits
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle

You won’t find a price list here, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. For a fixed quote, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What to send for a quote

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line.
