Grease filter exchange in Aston

An exchange visit in Aston doesn’t take long. The greasy filters come out, clean ones go in and make sure there are no gaps between them. If something looks wrong, we tell you. We’re often asked to deal with gaps where filters have been removed and grease filters clogged with grease, on mesh filters, island canopies and school and hospital kitchens.

For a kitchen in or near Aston, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

FAQs for Aston

Which council inspects kitchens in Aston?

Food hygiene inspections in Aston are carried out by Wokingham council. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.

Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Aston?

That is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.

What accreditations do you have?

Our accreditations are CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. Vent Hygiene Elite is run by BESCA and independently audited.

Do you take the used filters away?

We take them away to be cleaned, so your staff do not have to wash them. A clean set is fitted in their place.

Does a filter exchange replace TR19 cleaning?

No, the two work together. A TR19® clean deals with the whole system, with a certificate and photo report.

Can you clean our existing filters instead?

Yes, filter cleaning is available. The first step is looking at the filters you have because bent or damaged ones may need replacing.

How much notice should we give?

The more notice, the better, especially for out-of-hours work. We usually quote within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.

What happens to the waste?

We contain it and take it with us. Grease, debris and waste water are collected as the work goes on, so it does not spread.

Different parts, different methods

Canopy filter housings

The filter housing holds each filter at an angle in the canopy. A damaged housing leaves gaps.

Mesh filters

Older or smaller canopies often use mesh filters. They can be on the same exchange schedule as baffle filters.

Grease filter exchange in Aston: the local picture

The FSA’s data shows about 16 bars, pubs and nightclubs registered within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Aston. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. The fire and rescue service for Aston is Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Food hygiene inspections in Aston are the job of Wokingham council’s environmental health team. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked.

How we price grease filter exchange

We do not publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • Site rules, permits and inductions
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • How big the system is
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing

Working hours, access and the scale of the site all affect the cost. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before work begins.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:

  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, pictures of the system and any previous report or certificate. Then call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.

Common problems we fix in Aston

Washing filters by hand does not always get them clean. Grease lodges deep in baffles and mesh, and a quick rinse leaves it there.

What we are most often called out for:

  • Grease left in baffles after washing
  • Filters that leave gaps in the canopy
  • Grease building up behind the canopy filters
  • Missing filters in the filter bank

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Greenlands is about 1 mile north-west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
  • How areas they cannot reach will be recorded
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

How the visit works

We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your photos. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, the work takes anything from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the number of filters. Seeing the system in pictures first means the trip to Aston can be planned properly.

  1. The filters in each canopy are measured and counted.
  2. An exchange schedule is agreed to suit your cooking.
  3. The dirty set is lifted out.
  4. Clean filters go in and we check they sit snugly.
  5. The dirty filters leave with us and the next visit is booked.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Advice

What staff can safely do

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. Inside the ducts, risers and fan is specialist work, which is where we come in.

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

When it’s something else

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Grease already built up in the ductwork, which needs a full TR19 clean
  • A canopy that does not capture the vapour properly
  • Smell complaints that need odour control equipment

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
