Extract fan cleaning in Winslow

Not all extract fans are the same: roof-mounted units, inline fans within the duct, and wall fans. The way in depends on the type, and we plan that during the survey. We’re often asked to deal with vibration from an unbalanced impeller and hot, greasy smells near the fan, on fan housings, centrifugal fans and axial fans.

In a smaller place like Winslow, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. A kitchen that cooks fewer hours still builds up grease, so the interval is set by hours of use and grease readings.

Think of the report as the system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal, ready for your insurer.

The process

We turn up at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. On site, it takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. A site near Winslow typically has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.

  1. Diagnosis first: we look for grease, noise and vibration.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. Each blade is cleaned so the impeller runs evenly.
  4. Housing, outlet and the area around the motor are cleaned.
  5. The fan goes back into service with a report on its condition.

Before we arrive

  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Agree a time when the area can be out of use
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning

You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts. It’s based on:

  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • The scale of the work
  • The condition of the system

Whatever the type of site, the quote works the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we’ll explain each part.

Helping us quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site

Some systems can be priced from photos; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Common problems we fix in Winslow

Fans that are hard to reach are often the ones that get missed. If it wasn’t included in past cleans, it may hold years of grease, and the report will show it.

Any of these means the system needs a check-up:

  • A fan that has never been cleaned
  • Grease stains around the discharge
  • A motor area thick with grease
  • Weak extraction at the canopy

Healthcare kitchens cannot easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to Winslow is Buckingham Community Hospital, about 5.9 miles north-west.

Before booking anyone

  • What insurance they carry
  • Proof of accreditation you can verify
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or pictures
  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach

How the job changes from site to site

Kitchens with long cooking hours

When a busy kitchen’s fan fails, cooking stops. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.

Wall fans

With little duct before them, wall fans collect grease fast. They may need cleaning as often as the canopy, which grease readings will show.

What extract fan cleaning can’t fix

We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work cannot put right:

  • A motor that has burnt out
  • Grease in the canopy and ductwork
  • Damaged fan blades

Not sure which it is? You can call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Centrifugal fans
  • Fan housings
  • Discharge points
  • Roof-mounted fans
  • In-line fans
  • Axial fans

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. That part needs specialist access and equipment.

For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.
