About our extract fan cleaning in Thruxton
The fan is cleaned as part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some fans need cleaning between full cleans, especially when it has started to vibrate or sound rough. Where only the fan is cleaned, the report says so. We’re often asked to deal with a motor area thick with grease and a fan coated in grease inside its housing, on centrifugal fans, discharge points and axial fans.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. We agree access and timings in advance.
We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

Thruxton questions
Do you work in villages like Thruxton?
Yes. Thruxton is within the area we cover across London and the South East. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.
Which fire service covers Thruxton?
Thruxton is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Do we need to close while you work?
Not usually. We need the work area to ourselves while we are on site, so the visit goes in a quiet slot.
What about areas you cannot get to?
We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we explain what access is needed, for example new access panels.
Can the work be done while we are closed?
Yes. Much of our work happens in the evening, overnight or at weekends, so the site doesn’t lose a service.
How often should the extract fan be cleaned?
At least as often as the rest of the extract, which BESA guidance sets by daily cooking hours: every 3, 6 or 12 months. A noisy or heavily coated fan may need it sooner.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Regular plans can run on 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycles, depending on what the system needs.
Can the fan be cleaned between full cleans?
Yes, we do. The report will make clear that only the fan was cleaned, so your TR19 records stay accurate. The full system still needs its regular TR19 clean.
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We work across London and the South East, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we can quote for the whole system.
How it works
Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes an hour or two for most single fans, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. In a small place like Thruxton, the journey is planned ahead and the visit arranged around the site’s hours.
- We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
- With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
- We remove the grease from the blades, impeller and casing.
- We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
- We reassemble, run the fan and photograph the result.
How to prepare
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
- Move anything stored near the system
- Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

To get a fixed quote, ring 0345 646 2711 or email us with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few photos and your last certificate or report help a lot. You’ll usually have a quote within one working day.
Advice
Why act early in Thruxton
A greasy fan has to work harder to move the same air. Less air is pulled from the kitchen, so heat and smoke linger and the motor works harder. A planned visit to Thruxton is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Keeping the system healthy
So the system stays in good health:
- Check filters are seated before cooking
- Report grease escaping from the fan
- Report rattles or humming early
- Keep each photo report with the maintenance log
When we have finished, the fan is reassembled and run. If anything seems wrong, from vibration to wear, we note it, so you can plan any repair.
Make sure the fan is reachable. A fan that can be reached safely is a fan that gets cleaned, whether it’s on a roof, in a ceiling or on a wall.

What else we do in Thruxton
What affects the cost of extract fan cleaning
We don’t publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:
- The condition we find in the survey
- How big the system is
- Whether we need access equipment or extra panels
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. You’ll have a fixed price before we start.
What we need to know
When you call or email, it’s useful to have:
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Wide pictures of the system and the area around it
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Any previous report or certificate
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from pictures and details you send or from a site visit. After that, you get a fixed price for the work so you know the cost before we start.
Different parts, different methods
Kitchens with long cooking hours
A long-hours kitchen can’t afford a fan failure. Keeping the fan clean is part of avoiding that, and our 24/7 emergency callout is there if it happens anyway.
Wall fans
A wall fan pushes the air straight outside. We isolate it, then clean the blades and housing.
Grease, kitchens and Thruxton
According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 3 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Thruxton. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. It’s Test Valley council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Thruxton. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. A dated certificate in the maintenance file answers the question before it’s asked. Fire safety in Thruxton falls to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Peter and St Paul or elsewhere in Thruxton, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. For schools such as Amport Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. A hospital like Andover War Memorial Hospital, about 3.9 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.
Thruxton is about 4 miles west of Andover, in Hampshire. Whether your site is in the middle of Thruxton or further out, we cover extract fan cleaning for every kind of premises, from a single unit to a large public building. Thruxton is one of 683 places in Hampshire we cover for extract fan cleaning. There’s also a page for Southampton, about 22 miles away.
Postcode districts we cover here for extract fan cleaning: SP11. You’ll find streets such as Lambourne Way, Lambourne Close and Stanbury Close, and we cover them all for extract fan cleaning. Other places close to Thruxton include Mullenspond (1 mile east), East Cholderton (1 mile south-east), Fyfield (1 mile north), Weyhill (1 mile north-east) and Appleshaw (2 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Andover (4 miles east), Hyde (15 miles south-east), Tidworth (4 miles north-west), Weeke (14 miles south-east), Stanmore (15 miles south-east) and Ludgershall (3 miles north-west).
Around Thruxton

For rail, the closest station is Grateley station, roughly 3.2 miles south-west of the centre. A little further out are Andover War Memorial Hospital (3.9 miles east) and Ludgershall Castle (3.8 miles north-west). Open spaces near Thruxton include Anton Lakes and Quarley Hill.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.
Keep a record of what your team does. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.
