Extract fan cleaning in Penn, done properly

Kitchen extract fans come in different forms: fans on the roof, fans built into the duct run, and fans on an outside wall. The way in depends on the type and the survey shows us how to reach it. The work covers in-line fans, axial fans and roof-mounted fans, and common reasons people get in touch are a fan left out of previous cleans and grease escaping from the fan outlet.

In a village or hamlet like Penn, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we have been trading since 2009.

How the visit works

Protection comes first: floors, worktops and anything near the work are covered. Then we make the system safe and start. The work on site takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits, and we clear up before we go. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Penn, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We start by checking where the fan sits and how to isolate it.
  2. With the fan isolated, the housing is opened.
  3. Grease is scraped from the impeller blades and the inside of the housing.
  4. We degrease the fan and housing, taking care around the motor.
  5. It’s closed up, run and checked, and pictures go into your report.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the space around the work
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

Fixed quotes for extract fan cleaning in Penn

The survey tells us what the work involves. We look at:

  • Where the site is and how we reach it
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • One-off work versus a regular cycle
  • The condition we find in the survey

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What to send for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • Wide pictures of the system and the area around it

Want a quote for extract fan cleaning? Please phone us on 0345 646 2711, or email photos and tell us about the site. We’ll talk you through the work and give you a fixed quote before you commit to anything.

Part by part

Inline duct fans

Inline fans sit within the duct run, often above a ceiling. They’re reached through access panels or by opening the casing, once they’re isolated.

Impellers and blades

The blades of the impeller do the work, and grease builds up on them unevenly. An uneven coating throws it off balance, so it’s cleaned carefully blade by blade.

Why it’s worth doing now in Penn

A fan clean in Penn does not take long: the work takes an hour or two for one fan, longer when it’s hard to reach. Waiting adds vibration, wear and a harder clean. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Penn rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

Every site is different, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.

Common problems we fix in Penn

A greasy fan in Penn is fuel at the end of the duct. A fire in the duct can reach the fan and the grease around it, and a hot, struggling motor doesn’t help.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • A fan left out of previous cleans
  • A motor area thick with grease
  • Weak extraction at the canopy
  • Grease escaping from the fan outlet

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Tylers Green First School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Exactly which parts of the system are covered
  • What insurance they carry
  • If the quote is a fixed price or an estimate
  • How they set the interval to the next visit

Questions from Penn

Can school kitchens in Penn be cleaned in the holidays?

Yes, and it’s the easiest time to do it. Around Penn, the Food Standards Agency lists about 14 schools and colleges with registered kitchens within a mile and a half or so. Send us your term dates when you ring 0345 646 2711 or email us, and we will fit the work in.

Will you come out to Penn?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

How often does the fan need cleaning?

With the whole system, at intervals set by BESA guidance: every 3, 6 or 12 months. A noisy or heavily coated fan may need it sooner.

Can you clean the fan on its own?

Yes, if the fan needs it. A coated fan often means the duct before it is coated too, but the choice is yours.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.

Can the work be done while we’re closed?

Yes. Tell us your opening hours when you ask for a quote and we’ll book around them.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

Do you provide a report after cleaning the fan?

Every clean has a photo report, with anything we noticed. For a full TR19 clean, you also get a certificate through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Keep a record of what your team does. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, they should report it rather than try to fix it. We can diagnose it and quote.

What extract fan cleaning cannot fix

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A dirty duct upstream of the fan
  • A fan that is too small for the system (a design question)
  • A faulty speed controller or isolator

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly.
