Extract fan cleaning across Cressing

What happens if it’s left?

Cleaning the fan in Cressing now is a short job: the work takes a few hours where there are several fans or heavy deposits. Waiting adds vibration, wear and a harder clean. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.

What you get with us

  • Fixed quotes, normally within one working day
  • CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001
  • Photo reports with every job
  • Survey first, then a fixed quote

How we handle extract fan cleaning in Cressing

The extract fan is the heart of the system: it pulls air from the canopy, through the duct and out of the building. Whatever grease slips past the filters and duct reaches the fan and we clean it off. If you’re dealing with a motor area thick with grease and a heavily greased fan housing, we can help, from roof-mounted fans, fan housings and discharge points onwards.

For a kitchen in or near Cressing, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Duct Doctor has been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

The process

We’re used to working while the site is closed. A lot of visits happen overnight or at weekends, so the site can open as normal afterwards. The visit itself takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Cressing, let us know and we’ll plan around it.

  1. We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
  2. We isolate the power before opening the housing.
  3. Grease is scraped off the impeller blades and casing.
  4. The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
  5. It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in

Getting a quote

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.

Cressing: your questions answered

Do you work in villages like Cressing?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A survey first, from photos or a visit, means we arrive with the right kit.

Do you work at weekends in Cressing?

Yes. We work evenings, overnight and at weekends. The site is handed back ready to open. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us with your opening times and we’ll plan around them.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured, and we can share the details when you need them.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not typically. The area we are working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

Is it safe to clean the fan while the kitchen is open?

It has to be off and isolated, for safety. Cleans are done when the kitchen is closed, so cooking is not affected.

How often does the fan need cleaning?

It’s cleaned with the whole extract at BESA’s minimum intervals for your cooking hours. Readings may show it needs cleaning more often.

What happens to the waste?

It leaves the site with us at the end of the visit. While we work, it’s kept contained to keep the area clean.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, so we can schedule a run of sites on one programme. Each site gets its own report and photos.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Keeping records across a portfolio is half the battle. Each visit ends with a dated report and pictures, so you can show an insurer or inspector what was done at each site.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

Different parts, different methods

Fan housings and motors

We clean around the motor without soaking its electrics, and the fan is isolated throughout. Grease on and around the motor can trap heat, so the surrounding area is cleaned carefully.

Kitchens with long cooking hours

Long cooking hours mean more grease reaches the fan. BESA guidance sets at least 3-monthly cleaning for that level of use, fan included.

Staff cleaning versus specialist work

Some jobs should never be done in-house: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. That’s our job.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Clean filters and tidy surfaces slow the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

Kitchen extracts in Cressing

The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 4 pubs and bars within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Cressing. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. Cressing sits within the area of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises. It’s Braintree council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Cressing. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as William Julien Courtauld Hospital (about 2.7 miles north-west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands. If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Cressing Primary School or anywhere near Cressing, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Parish Church of All Saints, or anywhere in Cressing, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

Keeping the system healthy

Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:

  • Make sure the fan is included each time
  • Run the extract throughout cooking
  • Don’t store items in front of the fan’s access point
  • Tell us if the extract feels weaker

Keep the report with the maintenance log and fire risk assessment. It shows the fan’s condition at the time of the clean, which helps if anything changes later.

Keep the whole system on its cleaning cycle. Regular full cleans keep the fan from building up heavy deposits, in line with BESA guidance.

How we price extract fan cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • Whether several sites go on one quote
  • What state the system is in
  • Whether we need access equipment or extra panels

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Helping us quote

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Wide photos of the system and the area around it
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted
  • The postcode and the type of business

To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos.
