What we’re called out for in Bagshot

How fast a fan gets greasy in Bagshot depends on the cooking: daily hours and the amount of frying and grilling. Under BESA guidance, the whole system, fan included, needs cleaning at least every 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily hours.

Most sites get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • A fan that no longer moves enough air
  • A noisy fan that has got louder over time
  • Grease stains around the discharge
  • Thick grease on the impeller and casing

School kitchens, at schools like John O'Gaunt School for example, are normally cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
  • When the next visit should be, and why
  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • Whether the work can be done while the site is closed

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Extract fan cleaning in Bagshot

Kitchen extract fans come in different forms: fans on the roof, fans built into the duct run, and fans on an outside wall. Each is isolated and opened in its own way and the survey shows us how to reach it. Typical jobs include a fan motor running hot under a coat of grease and a fan left out of previous cleans, on discharge points, fan housings and axial fans.

For a kitchen in or near Bagshot, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

The process

There are three stages on the day: getting the area ready, doing the work and signing it off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a couple of hours per fan, depending on its size and the build-up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Bagshot before we set off.

  1. We locate the fan and plan how to reach and isolate it.
  2. We isolate the power before opening the housing.
  3. We scrape the heavy grease from the blades and housing.
  4. The fan is degreased, taking care around the motor.
  5. It’s closed up, run, checked and photographed for the report.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend

Bagshot questions

Is Bagshot within the area you cover?

Yes, Bagshot is part of our area, however small the site. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Which fire service covers Bagshot?

It’s Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Bagshot. TR19® isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.

Do you offer emergency callouts?

Yes, any time. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line and we will talk you through the next steps.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What should I send you?

Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

How much does extract fan cleaning cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how big it is, what state it’s in, how we reach it and the working hours. You get a fixed price before work begins.

What’s the cleaning interval for an extract fan?

It depends on how many hours the kitchen cooks, under BESA guidance. At the extremes, that is 3-monthly for heavy use and 12-monthly for light use, fan included.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you will get one fixed quote.

Keeping the system healthy

Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:

  • Watch for grease marks around the outlet
  • Never cook with a filter missing
  • Keep access to the fan clear
  • Note any drop in extraction at the canopy

The photo report shows the fan before and after cleaning. It notes what was done and anything that couldn’t be reached, along with the recommended next clean date.

Fewer grease particles reaching the fan means less build-up. Keep the grease filters clean, fitted and in place, and replace any that are damaged.

Kitchen extracts in Bagshot

Bagshot is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. Kitchens in Bagshot get their food hygiene inspections from West Berkshire council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector.

Church and community hall kitchens, near Church of the Good Shepherd or anywhere around Bagshot, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

What the work involves, part by part

Kitchens with long cooking hours

Kitchens that cook 12 to 16 hours a day put the most grease through their fans. Under BESA guidance, heavy use means cleaning at least every 3 months, fan included.

Roof-mounted fans

On a roof, the air is cooler and grease drops out faster. We scrape and degrease the blades and casing.

Leave it or put it right?

An unbalanced fan gets worse, not better. It wears bearings and mounts and can lead to a breakdown and a kitchen can’t cook safely without extraction. A planned clean beats an emergency. Somewhere as small as Bagshot, losing a kitchen or building to a fault is felt by everyone who uses it.

The cost depends on how big the system is, what state it’s in and access to every part of it. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What staff can safely do

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they cannot safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, which is where we come in.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.
