Ductwork cleaning in Pluckley, done properly

Not sure when the ductwork was last cleaned? A few details about the system are a good start when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and a fixed price will follow, normally within one working day. Typical jobs include a rancid smell from the extract duct and a duct nobody has opened in years, on bends and junctions, vertical risers and multi-storey ducts.

Work in a small place like Pluckley starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

Our accreditations include CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we are fully insured. On top of that, we are a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we’ve been trading since 2009.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Tell us if grease leaks from the ductwork
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
  • Don’t block access panels with shelving or stock

File the paperwork in the maintenance log. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the photos make the duct’s condition easy to see.

Run the extract the whole time the kitchen is cooking. Moving air carries vapour through rather than letting it settle, so switching off early adds to the build-up.

Why deal with it now?

BESA guidance says grease shouldn’t exceed a mean of 200 microns between cleans. A reading of 500 microns or more at any point means a spot clean right away. Putting off the clean only pushes readings higher. Rural sites can’t always move to another kitchen or room when something fails.

Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all make a difference.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Pluckley and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. We take grease readings along the route.
  3. Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking and loading
  • Mention any sign-in, permit or induction we need
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Getting a quote

The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Tell us what kind of site it is and when it’s open, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

Advice

For landlords and multi-site operators

Whether it’s one building or many, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with pictures.

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and photos, so records stay tidy.

Kitchen extracts in Pluckley

According to Food Standards Agency records, there are about 4 bars, pubs and nightclubs within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Pluckley. Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Pluckley sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order. It’s Ashford council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Pluckley. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

For schools such as Pluckley Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Godinton House is about 3.6 miles east), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

Pluckley is about 5 miles north-west of Ashford, in Kent. What a clean won’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • Parts of the duct with no way in

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on in Pluckley

  • Access panels
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts
  • Attenuators
  • Bends and junctions
  • Horizontal duct runs

When to call us in Pluckley

Wherever the kitchen is, in Pluckley or elsewhere, the duct fills in the same way: hours of cooking, the type of food and how well the filters are kept. Under BESA guidance, the minimum interval is 3, 6 or 12 months, by daily cooking hours.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Heavy grease at the base of a riser
  • Gaps where access panels were never fitted
  • High readings at a recent grease test
  • Stale grease odours from the duct

If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Nicholas or elsewhere in Pluckley, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Choosing a duct cleaning contractor

Different parts, different methods

Bends and transitions

Wherever the duct turns or changes size, grease builds up. Slowing air leaves grease behind, so these points get extra attention.

Vertical risers

Cleaning a riser needs access along its height. Where it can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Pluckley

Which fire authority looks after Pluckley?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Pluckley. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Is Pluckley within the area you cover?

Yes. Villages and rural sites across the South East are part of our work, Pluckley included. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, we fit access panels where the duct needs them. That lets the next clean reach sections that were missed, and the report will show where they’re needed.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. For many sites, photos and a few details are enough, while bigger or harder-to-see systems are surveyed on site.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

Floors and surfaces near the work are sheeted before work begins, and anything we remove is contained. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

How much notice do you need?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

What should I send you?

A short description and a few pictures, with the address and opening hours. We will ask for anything else we need.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, where the pictures show enough. If not, a site survey comes first, and the quote follows that.
