How we handle ductwork cleaning in Palmarsh
Once air leaves the canopy, it travels through ductwork that most people never see. Every horizontal run and vertical riser collects grease along the way, and that’s where a kitchen fire can travel. Our ductwork cleaning reaches inside the runs and risers through access panels, to BESA TR19® Grease. The work covers horizontal duct runs, attenuators and access panels, and the jobs we see most are ductwork that has never been cleaned and high readings at a recent grease test.
In a smaller place like Palmarsh, the kitchens with extract systems are more likely to be a pub, a café, a takeaway or a school or care home kitchen than a big restaurant. Quieter kitchens still collect grease in the duct, just more slowly, so cleaning is planned around how much it cooks and what the readings show.
The report is your system’s health record: a dated account with pictures of everything we did. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal, ready for your insurer.

Aftercare tips
Good habits slow the build-up between visits. Our tips:
- Flag drips from the duct straight away
- Diarise the next duct clean
- Ask for a grease thickness test if the kitchen gets busier
- Keep the fan on while anything is cooking
Every panel we open is refitted when we finish, and the surrounding area is left clean. Grease and dirty water are contained and removed.
Grease that never reaches the duct never needs cleaning out of it. Keep the filters clean, well fitted and in place whenever you cook.
Different parts, different methods
Horizontal duct runs
Flat runs of duct link the canopy to the riser or the outside wall. Grease drops out of the slowing air along them, and we clean them section by section through access panels.
Multi-storey and shared buildings
A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.
What happens if it’s left?
A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. It can travel through the ductwork to other parts of the building, so cleaning the duct is as important as cleaning the hood. Light use slows the build-up but does not stop it.
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you are not sure what’s needed, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

How the visit works
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct, and the area is cleaned down before we leave. A site near Palmarsh usually has room to park, so the questions are about access to the system and your hours.
- The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
- We take grease readings along the route.
- Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
- Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
- We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.
How to prepare
- Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
- Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
- Find the previous report, if there is one
Ask for a quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: wide shots of the system, close-ups of anything that worries you and how we’d get to it. Add the site type and your opening hours, and many jobs can be priced from that alone.
Advice
When to call us in Palmarsh
Ducts in Palmarsh gather grease for the same reasons as ducts anywhere: daily cooking hours, the menu and the state of the filters. BESA guidance sets minimum intervals of 3, 6 or 12 months depending on daily use.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- A rancid smell from the extract duct
- Thick deposits at the bottom of a vertical duct
- Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
- Sections of duct with no access panels
For schools such as Palmarsh Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is usually booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed.
What to look for in a quote
- What paperwork you get at the end
- Whether the whole system is included, or only the parts that are easy to reach
- When the next visit should be, and why
- Which accreditations they hold, and whether you can check them
When something else is needed
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
- Undersized or badly laid-out ducts
- A worn-out fan that needs replacing
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will say what we think.

Landlords, agents and facilities managers
From a single site to a large estate, you get the same standard: the system surveyed, the price fixed, the visit fitted around trading and everything written up afterwards.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept to a regular schedule.

The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 27 restaurants, cafés and canteens and about 7 takeaways across Palmarsh and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). The duct above a busy canopy coats itself in grease long before anyone sees it. Kitchens in Palmarsh get their food hygiene inspections from Folkestone and Hythe council. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Which fire service covers Palmarsh?
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Palmarsh. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Do you work in villages like Palmarsh?
Yes. Palmarsh is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule and quote for it.
Is a quote from pictures possible?
Yes, if we can see what we need. Otherwise, we book a survey at a time that suits the site, and the quote follows that.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and any previous paperwork make it quicker. Then call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
How much does ductwork cleaning cost in Palmarsh?
Size, condition, access and working hours all affect the cost. Ask us for a fixed quote and we will normally reply within one working day.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a fan failure or damage after a fire, ring the 24/7 line, and we’ll advise on what to do next.
Do you install duct access panels?
Yes. The survey or clean shows where sections couldn’t be reached, and fitting them means future cleans are more complete.
