Your questions about ductwork cleaning in Little Mill

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Little Mill?

In Little Mill, it’s Tonbridge and Malling council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

Do you work overnight in Little Mill?

Yes, nights and weekends are routine for us. The site is handed back ready to open. Your opening times are the first thing we ask for.

How much notice should we give?

That depends on the slot you want and the size of the job. Mention your preferred dates with your enquiry, and if it’s an emergency, call us any time.

What is TR19?

A BESA specification, with two parts that matter most here: TR19® Grease for kitchen extract systems and TR19® Air for general ventilation. It isn’t law, but it’s the benchmark.

What do you do to protect the area?

Protection goes down first: floor sheeting and covers over nearby surfaces and equipment. The area is left tidy, with our waste taken away.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, fully. CHAS and SafeContractor accreditation sit alongside it for clients who vet their contractors.

Do you work with multi-site operators?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

What about areas you can’t get to?

They’re marked on the report. Often the fix is extra access, such as new panels in ductwork, and we can fit those.

Ductwork cleaning in Little Mill, done properly

The ductwork is where an extract clean is won or lost. Sections with no way in can go uncleaned for years. We open up every reachable section and record any we can’t reach, so you know exactly where you stand. If you have grease seeping out of the duct seams and thick crusts of old grease along the duct, we can help.

In a village or hamlet like Little Mill, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are usually a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease.

Accreditations are easy to claim and worth checking. Ours are BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

When to call us in Little Mill

The further the air travels from the cooking, the cooler it gets. Cooling air drops its grease onto the inside of the duct, so duct runs keep collecting grease long after the canopy.

If you notice any of these, it’s worth a diagnosis:

  • Hardened, baked-on grease in long horizontal runs
  • Stale grease odours from the duct
  • A duct clean needed for an insurer
  • Readings above 200 microns from a grease thickness test

A hospital like Tonbridge Cottage Hospital, about 4.6 miles south-west, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How areas they can’t reach will be recorded
  • Whether the price is fixed
  • What records you will receive afterwards
  • What hours they’ll be on site

Aftercare tips

Here’s the after-treatment advice, short and simple:

  • Don’t block access panels with shelving or stock
  • Book the next clean before the recommended date
  • File each certificate and photo report in the maintenance log
  • Consider fitting panels where the report shows gaps

After the clean, the same points are tested again, giving you before and after readings. Before and after pictures sit next to the numbers.

Some signs mean the duct needs attention sooner: grease leaking from duct joints, smells, or a fan that sounds rough. A grease thickness test can confirm whether a spot clean is needed.

Honest limits

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)
  • Duct sealed behind fixed ceilings or walls
  • A duct that’s too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Bends and junctions
  • Attenuators
  • Horizontal duct runs
  • Access panels
  • Vertical risers
  • Multi-storey ducts

What we do, step by step

There are three stages on the day: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Set-up means sheeting and making equipment safe, and the sign-off is a written report with photos. The middle part takes longest, which takes a shift or more, depending on the length of the runs and the number of access points. We agree a date with you, plan the drive to Little Mill and turn up when the site is quiet.

  1. We map the duct route and check where the access panels are.
  2. We measure grease thickness at set points before cleaning.
  3. Access panels are opened and heavy deposits scraped out by hand.
  4. Horizontal runs and risers are then degreased by the method that suits the deposit.
  5. Readings and photos are repeated and any section we couldn’t reach is recorded.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Tell us about site rules, permits or sign-in
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote doesn’t take long. Send a few details and pictures, and we typically reply with a fixed quote within one working day. If we need to see the system first, we book a survey around your hours.

How we price ductwork cleaning

We don’t publish a price list, because sites vary so much. What we look at:

  • Parking and loading at the site
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • The condition of the system
  • The scale of the work

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any access panels or hatches you can see

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.

Why act early in Little Mill

A fire in a greasy duct is hard to reach and hard to stop. The duct can carry it to rooms, floors or roof spaces well away from the kitchen, which is why the duct matters as much as the canopy. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.

Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: how much there is, how we reach it, what state it’s in and when we can work. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

Multi-site and managed buildings

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.
