Ductwork cleaning in Home Farm

Ductwork cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Home Farm

We’ve been trading since 2009, working across London and the South East. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, our duct cleaning is done to BESA TR19® Grease, and our certificates are issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. Common call-outs are for grease pooling at the foot of the riser and a duct nobody has opened in years, across multi-storey ducts, vertical risers and horizontal duct runs.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

The paperwork matters as much as the work. Each visit is written up with photos, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. File it in your maintenance log so it’s ready for an insurer, fire officer or EHO.

What we are called out for in Home Farm

Wherever the kitchen is, in Home Farm or elsewhere, the duct fills in the same way: daily cooking hours, the menu and the state of the filters. Under BESA guidance, the minimum interval is 3, 6 or 12 months, by daily cooking hours.

These are the problems we see most often:

  • Thick crusts of old grease along the duct
  • Gaps where access panels were never fitted
  • An insurer asking for TR19 evidence
  • Grease seeping out of the duct seams

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Pinewood Hospital about 0.7 miles south-west, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether the figure could change on the day
  • What happens if part of the system cannot be accessed
  • What records you’ll receive afterwards
  • Whether they recommend a next date

Our hiring checklist

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, next to our reports.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they don’t reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

The process

Your trading hours come first. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Home Farm.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Out of hours, the area is protected and the access panels opened.
  4. Heavy deposits come out by hand, then each section is degreased.
  5. Panels are closed, readings and pictures repeated, and unreachable sections recorded.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms

How to get a quote

To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, photos of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Advice

FAQs for Home Farm

Do you clean school canteen extracts around Home Farm out of term?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. With about 11 schools and colleges on the FSA’s register within roughly a mile and a half of Home Farm, it pays to plan holiday dates ahead. Send us your term dates when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line, and we will fit the work in.

Is Home Farm within the area you cover?

Yes. Home Farm is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, to suit the system and how it’s used.

Do you look at the system first?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

What’s TR19?

TR19® is the BESA specification for keeping ventilation systems clean. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, while TR19® Air covers other supply and extract ductwork.

What types of premises do you cover?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a small pub to a hospital. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7, for problems that can’t wait. Call us any time and explain what’s happened.

What happens if there aren’t enough access panels?

Any section we can’t reach is recorded on the report, in line with TR19. New panels can be fitted to reach them in future.

What happens if it’s left?

Dealing with the ductwork in Home Farm now beats dealing with it after a problem. It takes a few hours for a short run, longer for long runs and tall risers, done out of hours so the kitchen keeps cooking. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

No two sites are the same, so we price each one individually. Size, access, the condition of the system and when we can work all play a part.

Grease, kitchens and Home Farm

Look up Home Farm on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you’ll find about 20 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 6 sandwich bars and takeaways in Home Farm and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each kitchen that cooks under a canopy sends grease-laden air into a duct, where it cools and settles. Home Farm is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. Kitchens in Home Farm get their food hygiene inspections from Bracknell Forest council. They look at how clean the premises and equipment are, and the kitchen extract is part of that. Our report lists what was cleaned and when, which is useful to have ready.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Church and community hall kitchens, near St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church or anywhere around Home Farm, are easy to forget, but their extracts collect grease like any other.

Fixed quotes for ductwork cleaning in Home Farm

The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:

  • How easy every part is to reach
  • Working hours and out-of-hours timing
  • Parking and loading at the site
  • The size of the system

What you pay depends on the size of the system, what state it’s in and how easy it is to reach. You get a fixed price before we start, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

Many jobs can be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • A few general shots of the system
  • How we’d reach plant on a roof or in a plant room
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • Problems your staff have spotted

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What the work involves, part by part

Attenuators and discharge

At the end of the duct is the discharge. It can gather grease and mark the wall or roof around it, so it’s cleaned as far as safe access allows.

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. Visits are planned around the building’s hours, out of hours where possible.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Parts of the duct with no way in
  • Leaking duct joints that need repair
  • Fire dampers that do not close (they need testing and remedials)

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.
