What the work involves, part by part

Multi-storey and shared buildings

A duct that climbs several floors may be cleaned over more than one visit. We agree a sequence that suits the building, out of hours where possible.

Attenuators and discharge

Some systems have attenuators to reduce noise, and their linings can soak up grease. We clean what can be reached and note anything that can’t.

Ductwork cleaning in Hatchet Green, done properly

Not sure when the ductwork was last cleaned? A few details about the system are a good start when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email, and we will send you a fixed quote for ductwork cleaning, typically within one working day. We are often asked to deal with fat dripping from the ductwork and a grease test showing the duct is overdue, on horizontal duct runs, bends and junctions and access panels.

Somewhere as small as Hatchet Green, commercial kitchens are few: perhaps a pub, a school or care home kitchen, or a hall used for events. Every one of them still needs its extract kept clear of grease, whatever the size of the place.

We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. We also hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, and we’re fully insured.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before we start, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to several visits, depending on the length of duct. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Hatchet Green knowing what to expect.

  1. The duct route is surveyed and every access point found.
  2. Grease thickness is measured at set points.
  3. Once the kitchen has closed, we protect the area and open the panels.
  4. Thick grease is scraped out, then the runs and risers are degreased.
  5. We close up, re-test, photograph and record anything out of reach.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Clear the space around the work
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

How to get a quote

Some systems can be priced from pictures; others need a survey. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.

How we price ductwork cleaning

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The size of the system
  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • The times the site is available

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can send:

  • The site address and the type of premises
  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • The times we could work without disrupting the site
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

To get a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. Photos and the last report, if you have one, make the quote quicker. We normally come back within one working day.

FAQs for Hatchet Green

Is Hatchet Green within the area you cover?

Yes, Hatchet Green is part of our area, however small the site. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which environmental health team covers Hatchet Green?

That’s New Forest council, whose environmental health officers carry out food hygiene inspections in Hatchet Green. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

How can I tell if my extract ducts are dirty?

Signs include grease dripping from joints, smells and a fan working harder, but the only sure way is to measure. A WFTT or DTT reading gives a clear answer.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. Photos often do the job, and larger or hidden systems get a visit.

Do you install duct access panels?

Yes, as part of our fits and repairs work. Panels go where they give the best access to sections that couldn’t be reached, and we will recommend where.

How often should kitchen ducts be cleaned?

It follows the same interval as the whole extract, from every 3 months for heavy use to every 12 months for light use. Grease thickness testing shows whether that is often enough.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

We cover floors and nearby surfaces with sheeting before work begins, and waste is contained as we go. At the end, the area is cleaned down.

What ductwork cleaning looks like in Hatchet Green

Environmental health officers from New Forest council inspect food businesses in Hatchet Green. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Hatchet Green sits within the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. Grease in a kitchen extract is a recognised fire risk, and the fire authority enforces the law on managing it in most commercial premises.

Keeping the system healthy

Results last longer with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Flag drips from the duct right away
  • Leave a way through to the access panels
  • Check readings when the menu changes
  • Get panels fitted where the duct couldn’t be cleaned

File the paperwork in the maintenance log. It’s the evidence an insurer or inspector may ask for, and the pictures make the duct’s condition easy to see.

Book the next duct clean before the date passes. If the kitchen starts cooking longer hours, the interval may need to shorten, and grease thickness testing will show it.

What we’re called out for in Hatchet Green

Many ducts don’t have enough access panels. Stretches with no way in may never have been touched, and the grease there keeps building out of sight.

Most sites get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Smells of old cooking grease from the ductwork
  • Grease leaking from duct joints
  • Proof of duct cleaning for the insurer
  • Grease pooling at the foot of the riser

A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Mary or elsewhere in Hatchet Green, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the quote shows VAT
  • What’s included in the scope, part by part
  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • What insurance they carry

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and multi-site operators

From a single site to a large estate, the standard is the same: diagnosis, a fixed price, work booked around your hours and a written report with pictures.

We also work for facilities teams across offices, schools and healthcare in Hatchet Green and across Hampshire. Work can be phased by floor, building or site to keep disruption down.

What ductwork cleaning can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things this work won’t fix:

  • A duct that is too small or badly routed for the kitchen (a design issue)
  • Faulty fire dampers
  • An extract fan that has stopped working

If in doubt, phone us on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we will say what we think.
