Bracknell Forest · Canopy and hood cleaning
Wooden Hill canopy cleaning
Canopy cleaning in Wooden Hill from ventilation hygiene specialists trading since 2009. Evenings, overnight and weekends, plus a 24/7 emergency line.
- Grease dripping from the canopy edge
- A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away
- Wet, greasy drips from the hood
About our canopy cleaning in Wooden Hill
Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. If you’re dealing with fat running down the front of the hood and smoke hanging around the canopy during service, we can put it right, from wall canopies, canopy light fittings and plenum chambers onwards.
Work in a small place like Wooden Hill starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
We have been trading since 2009, and we’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. If the van will struggle with a lane or gateway near Wooden Hill, let us know and we’ll plan around it.
- Diagnosis first: we look behind the filters as well as at the hood.
- We protect everything below once it has cooled.
- Heavy deposits come off by hand, then the surfaces are degreased.
- Plenum, housing, troughs and canopy are all cleaned and checked.
- You get pictures of the result and a recommended date for the next clean.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking or loading restrictions
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Let us know when the site is closed or quiet
How to get a quote
Every quote begins with a look at the system, either from photos and details you send or from a site visit. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.

Keeping the system healthy
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it helps at the next visit:
- Never run the range with a filter out
- Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
- Refit filters the right way round and fully seated
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
Keep the photo report with your maintenance log, so it’s ready when an EHO, insurer or fire officer asks. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.
Run the extract for as long as anything is cooking. Turning the fan off early lets vapour settle on the hood.
What the work involves, part by part
Island canopies
The underside of an island canopy is in full view so a clean, even finish matters. We degrease it thoroughly and photograph the result.
School and staff canteen kitchens
Canteens and school kitchens tend to run to a timetable, so the canopy can be cleaned when the kitchen is closed. Holidays and weekends work well.
What canopy cleaning cannot fix
Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:
- Bent or broken filters
- Electrical faults in the canopy
- A hood that does not cover the cooking line
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
- Plenum chambers
- Island canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Grease gutters
Multi-site and managed buildings
Where a tenant occupies the premises but the landlord owns the building, it’s worth checking the lease for who maintains the systems. We are happy to deal with either side and send the paperwork to whoever needs it.
Whether it’s one building or many, you get the same standard: a survey first, a fixed quote, the work timed around the site and a report with photos.
Grease, kitchens and Wooden Hill
The FSA’s food hygiene register includes about 3 pubs, bars and clubs in and around Wooden Hill, up to about a mile and a half out. Breakfasts, bar meals and functions all put grease into the extract wherever they’re cooked. Wooden Hill is covered by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Fire and rescue authorities enforce the Fire Safety Order in most non-domestic premises, and in a kitchen that fire risk includes the grease in the extract. Kitchens in Wooden Hill get their food hygiene inspections from Bracknell Forest council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
Bursars and site managers at schools such as Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School tend to book extract cleaning for when the kitchen is empty. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church, or anywhere in Wooden Hill, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Pinewood Hospital (about 1 mile west), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.

FAQs for Wooden Hill
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Wooden Hill?
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Wooden Hill. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
Can school kitchens in Wooden Hill be cleaned in the holidays?
Yes, holiday work suits schools best. Food Standards Agency records list about 11 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Wooden Hill. Send us your term dates when you give us a ring on 0345 646 2711, or send details by email, and we will fit the work in.

Who has the legal duty for fire safety?
The Fire Safety Order 2005 calls them the responsible person: normally the employer or whoever controls the premises. Landlords, facilities managers and managing agents can also hold responsibility.
What does TR19 mean?
TR19® is BESA’s specification for ventilation hygiene. Since 2019, TR19® Grease has been a standalone specification for grease in kitchen extract systems, and TR19® Air covers general supply and extract systems.
Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?
They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.
How long does canopy cleaning take?
It takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.
Why deal with it now?
A canopy clean in Wooden Hill now stops the grease spreading further. The work takes a few hours for most canopies, out of hours so service carries on. Put off, the grease simply moves further into the system. If the system at a site near Wooden Hill fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.
Kitchens, offices, schools and hospitals are all priced the same way: the size of the job, access, condition and working hours. Ask for a fixed quote and we will explain each part.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We check:
- The condition of the system
- The number of sites or systems
- How big the system is
- Any permits to work or inductions
A single site or a whole portfolio, we price it on the same basis: what needs doing, how we get to it and when. The price is fixed before we start.
Asking for a quote
You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
- Problems your staff have spotted
To help us quote: where the site is, what it is and its opening hours, a few pictures and any previous report or certificate. Once you have those, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.
