About our canopy cleaning in West End
A kitchen team can wipe the outside of a canopy, but the seams, gutters and inner skin need more. We scrape the heavy deposits, then degrease the surfaces with methods that suit the build-up, using hot water or steam where it helps. Common call-outs are for grease dripping from the canopy edge and condensation running down the canopy, on island canopies, grease gutters and baffle filters.
Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.
The sign-off is always in writing: a written report, dated and illustrated with pictures, and for TR19® Grease cleans, a certificate issued through the BESCA VHE portal. It shows what was done and what, if anything, couldn’t be reached.

The process
Protection comes first: sheeting goes over floors and surfaces close to the work. After that, the system is made safe and the work begins. It takes a few hours for most canopies, and we clear up before we go. If you can send photos, we can arrive in West End knowing what to expect.
- We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.
Before we arrive
- Tell us where we can park and unload
- Clear loose items from the work area
- Arrange a key holder or contact on site
Ask for a quote
To help us quote: the address, the type of site and when it’s open, pictures of the system and the last certificate or report, if there is one. Once you have those, call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

What we are called out for in West End
Moisture in the air mixes with the grease on the canopy. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Canopy gutters full of old fat
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
- Filters that clog soon after cleaning
- Heavy deposits behind the grease filters
If you look after a school kitchen, at a school such as Thornden Wood Primary School or anywhere near West End, the holidays are the usual time for a TR19® clean.
Questions to ask before booking
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- What paperwork you get at the end
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
- Whether they recommend a next date
Multi-site and managed buildings
If you look after several sites, we can plan visits across the whole estate and price them together. Each site gets its own report and photos, so each one has its own record.
Multi-site operators often want one contractor and one number. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.
West End: your questions answered
Do you clean school canteen extracts around West End out of term?
Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. There are about 6 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of West End. You can give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with the dates the site is empty.
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for West End?
That’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service. It’s worth keeping your fire risk assessment, TR19® certificates and photo reports together, ready to show.
What do you do with what you remove?
Anything we remove is contained as we work and taken away with us, from grease and debris to used cleaning water. We do not leave it behind.
What types of premises do you cover?
Commercial premises of every kind: kitchens, offices, schools, healthcare, retail, leisure and food production. We fit the work around how the site operates.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, day and night, every day of the year. Our office is open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, with the emergency line covering every other hour.
How far ahead should we book?
The more notice, the better, particularly for night and weekend visits. Quotes normally come back within one working day, and there’s a 24/7 line for emergencies.
Will I get a report after the canopy clean?
Photos of the canopy and plenum before and after. The report includes a recommended next clean date.
Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?
That depends on who controls the premises. Under the Fire Safety Order 2005, it’s the responsible person, which can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, an FM or a managing agent.
Aftercare tips
Looking after the system between visits is straightforward, and it makes the next visit easier:
- Keep grease cups and drawers emptied
- Make sure filters sit tight in the housing
- Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
- Keep every filter in place while cooking
A before and after photo report follows the clean. The report lists what was cleaned and any part we couldn’t get to, so the record is honest and complete.
Don’t let canopy gutters fill to the brim. Most canopy drips start with a full trough, so make emptying them part of the closing routine.
When it’s something else
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what canopy cleaning will not do:
- A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)
- Bent or broken filters
- A light fitting that does not work
If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Canopy light fittings
- Plenum chambers
- Grease gutters
- Baffle filters
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
Why act early in West End
Baked-on grease gets harder to shift the longer it stays. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, which makes a later clean slower and harder. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near West End rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.
We don’t list prices on the website, because the cost depends on the site in front of us. Call for a fixed quote, and we will talk you through it.

How we price canopy cleaning
We do not publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The size of the system
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Working hours and out-of-hours timing
Every site is different, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all play a part.
Asking for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- Wide photos of the system and the area around it
- The postcode and the type of business
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Your last certificate, test record or report
If you need canopy cleaning in West End, call 0345 646 2711 or email us. Tell us what kind of premises it is and when it’s open, and send pictures or your last report if you can. A fixed quote normally follows within one working day.
Canopy cleaning in West End: the local picture
The coast is only about 2 miles from West End. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The Food Standards Agency lists about 7 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses in and around West End, up to about a mile and a half out. Where they serve hot food, their kitchen extracts need cleaning to TR19® like any restaurant’s. Food hygiene inspections in West End are the job of Canterbury City council’s environmental health team. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near St Peter or elsewhere in West End, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens can’t easily close, so their extracts are cleaned overnight or between meal services; the nearest hospital to West End is Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital, about 2 miles north-west.
West End is about 2 miles south-west of Herne Bay, in Kent. We carry out canopy cleaning for businesses, landlords and public buildings in West End and the rest of Kent. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, West End among them. You can also see our page for Maidstone, about 25 miles away.
