Canopy cleaning in Tiptoe

Canopy cleaning in Tiptoe

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. The work covers wall canopies, plenum chambers and baffle filters, and the jobs we see most are fat running down the front of the hood and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector.

Work in a small place like Tiptoe starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean itself is the same full TR19® job as in any town: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

The report is your system’s health record: dated, with pictures, and showing what was done. For TR19® Grease cleans, the certificate comes through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal and sits alongside the report.

Multi-site and managed buildings

If you look after several sites, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Each site gets its own report and pictures, so each one has its own record.

Records are where multi-site compliance often slips. Every visit ends with a dated report and pictures, ready to show insurers, fire officers or EHOs.

How the visit works

Everything the job needs comes with us, from protective sheeting to tools and access equipment. All we need from you is clear access and the right equipment switched off. On site, the work takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits. A few photos of the system help us make the most of a visit to a place like Tiptoe.

  1. We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
  2. Cooking equipment is left to cool and the area under the canopy protected.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. Clean filters are refitted and before and after photos go into your report.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored near the system
  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site

Getting a quote

We do not publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from photos or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To get going, ring 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form.

Advice

Aftercare tips

Results last longer with the right care. We suggest:

  • Report new drips or smells from the canopy
  • Wash or exchange the filters on a regular cycle
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops

Keep the photo report with your maintenance log where an inspector can see it. Photos of a clean canopy and plenum make the record easy to follow.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Tiptoe?

A canopy with gaps around its filters lets grease straight through. More grease reaches the plenum and housing than they’re designed to take, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

Clients typically contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Grease dripping from the canopy edge
  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • A canopy that no longer draws the smoke away

Term dates shape school work: for a school like Tiptoe Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break.

FAQs for Tiptoe

Which fire service covers Tiptoe?

Tiptoe is in the area of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service. A recent cleaning certificate and a note of the next clean date show that grease in the extract is being managed.

Who would carry out a food hygiene inspection at a kitchen in Tiptoe?

The local authority for Tiptoe is New Forest council, and its environmental health team does the inspecting. It helps to keep the extract cleaning records with your food safety paperwork, so they’re ready if asked for.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. The report says which parts couldn’t be reached and why, along with a quote to put access in.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

A canopy-only clean is possible, but it is not a full TR19 clean. For TR19, the whole system needs cleaning, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Who is responsible for fire safety on the premises?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it’s the responsible person: often the employer, owner or occupier. In shared or managed buildings, a landlord, facilities manager or managing agent can share the duty.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

The filters come out so the plenum behind them can be cleaned, then clean and refit them. Any that are damaged are noted on the report.

What does TR19 mean?

It’s BESA’s specification and the benchmark insurers, fire officers and EHOs look to. It sets out inspection, cleaning and record keeping, and it takes a risk-based approach.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001, alongside BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. The Vent Hygiene Elite scheme is run by BESCA and audited independently.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. Cleaning inside ducts and units is specialist work.

Staff cleaning and specialist work are not the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Part by part

Wall canopies

A wall-mounted canopy runs along the back of the range. The joint between canopy and wall is a common grease trap, and we clean that join along with the inside of the hood.

Plenums and filter housings

A plenum that hasn’t been cleaned for a long time can hold a thick layer of grease. We remove thick grease by hand, then degrease.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Tiptoe

Sea air reaches Tiptoe, which sits within about 3 miles of the coast. Metal on the roof weathers faster close to the coast, and the extract fan and cowl are no exception. The FSA’s food hygiene register shows about 4 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens and about 3 sandwich bars and takeaways within roughly a mile and a half of the centre of Tiptoe. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Environmental health officers from New Forest council inspect food businesses in Tiptoe. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

Historic houses near Tiptoe, such as Highcliffe Castle about 4.6 miles south-west, are a reminder that older buildings with event kitchens can have long, awkward duct routes. A hospital like Lymington New Forest Hospital, about 3.8 miles east, is the kind of site where a kitchen may cook for patients, staff and visitors all day.

Tiptoe is about 4 miles north-west of Lymington, in Hampshire. Sites in Tiptoe get the same service as everywhere we cover: a survey first, a fixed quote, work timed around your hours and a report with photos.
