Canopy and hood cleaning in Red Hill, Kent
Specialist canopy cleaning for Red Hill: a survey, a fixed price, careful work and proper paperwork. Call for a fixed quote.
- Condensation and grease dripping together
- Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
- A canopy flagged at an environmental health inspection
How it works
We work around your opening hours, not the other way round. Most visits are booked for when the area is out of use, such as evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Once we are in, the area is sheeted and anything that has to be off is turned off and cooled, and the work takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Red Hill before we set off.
- We look at the canopy first, from photos or on a visit.
- Equipment below is switched off and left to cool, then sheeted.
- With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
- The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
- Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.
How to prepare
- Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
- Clear the space around the work
How to get a quote

Canopy cleaning in Red Hill, done properly
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have wet, greasy drips from the hood and overflowing grease troughs and gutters, we can put it right, from canopy light fittings, baffle filters and grease gutters onwards.
For a kitchen in or near Red Hill, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
The report is your system’s health record: dated, with photos, and showing what was done. Grease extract cleans are also certificated to TR19® Grease through the BESCA VHE portal and sits alongside the report.

What a clean will not put right
Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we will tell you before any work starts. It does not solve:
- Electrical faults in the canopy
- A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
If in doubt, ring 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think.
Parts of the system we cover
- Grease gutters
- Island canopies
- Wall canopies
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Plenum chambers
Between visits
Once we have finished, these simple steps help:
- Clean the hood’s outer surfaces daily
- Use non-abrasive cloths on the hood
- Leave the extract running until cooking stops
- Report new drips or smells from the canopy
Where the canopy is cleaned as part of a full TR19® Grease clean, a TR19 certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal. If the job covers only the canopy, the paperwork reflects that.
A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. It can mean the cooking has changed or the interval is too long, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
What affects the cost of canopy cleaning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
- Where the site is and how we reach it
- What state the system is in
- A single visit or a regular plan
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we survey first, from pictures or on site, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
What to send for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. With your enquiry, please include:
- When the site is open and when it’s quiet
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
- Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before we start.
Leave it or put it right?
Drips from a dirty canopy land on the cooking line. It’s a food hygiene concern as much as a fire concern, and environmental health officers look at the cleanliness of equipment, extraction included. Systems in rural buildings are often out of sight and out of mind.
One small site or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the timing. The price is fixed before we start.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?
A few tasks are always specialist work: entering ducts, working on fans, testing dampers and taking grease readings call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
For ventilation and air handling systems, in-house care is mostly about checks: keeping grilles clear, noting unusual noise or smells and logging filter changes. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.
Managing agents and facilities teams in Red Hill
We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so a run of sites can go into one programme and kept to a regular schedule.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Red Hill
Which fire and rescue service is responsible for Red Hill?
It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Red Hill. TR19® is not law, but it’s the benchmark many fire officers and insurers look to when they ask how often the extract is cleaned.
Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Red Hill?
In Red Hill, it’s Maidstone council that carries out food hygiene inspections. Have your latest TR19® certificate and photo report to hand, as an officer may ask how the extract is maintained.
Does a canopy clean meet TR19?
A TR19® Grease clean covers the whole system, not just the canopy. Cleaning the canopy alone leaves the ducts, risers and fan untouched, and the report will say what was covered.
What if parts of the system can’t be reached?
We record them on the report, with pictures where possible, and we tell you what would make it reachable, for example new access panels.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We carry full insurance, and we have been trading since 2009.
Do you work in Red Hill?
Yes. Our technicians work in Red Hill, as part of our area across London and the South East.
What causes grease to drip from the hood?
Grease that builds up inside the canopy has to go somewhere. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. A thorough clean stops it.
Can you look after several sites?
Yes. You deal with one contact for every site in our area, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.
Canopy cleaning around Red Hill
Food Standards Agency records list about 8 restaurants, cafés and works canteens and about 5 takeaways and sandwich shops across Red Hill and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Red Hill sits within the area of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk. Kitchens in Red Hill get their food hygiene inspections from Maidstone council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.
For kitchens close to Wateringbury station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of St Peter and St Paul or elsewhere in Red Hill, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often. Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Oakwood Hospital (about 2.4 miles east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
