Common questions in Lacey Green

Can a school canteen extract in Lacey Green be done out of term time?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. Food Standards Agency records list about 2 schools, colleges and universities with registered kitchens within about a mile and a half of Lacey Green. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Can you get to a site in Lacey Green?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the site when you book.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work and have been trading since 2009.

Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?

Single hoods, long wall canopies and island canopies alike. We work out the approach when we survey, from photos or a visit.

Which sectors do you work in?

Any site with a kitchen or a ventilation system to look after, from a single café to a large school. Hotels, schools, care homes, offices, shops and leisure sites are all part of our work.

What do you do with what you remove?

Waste is contained during the work and removed when we leave, including grease, debris and dirty water. None of it is left on site.

Do we lose a day’s trading?

Not normally. The area we’re working in has to be out of use while we are there, so we book a time when it would be closed anyway.

How far ahead should we book?

For planned work, earlier is better, especially if the next clean or test is due soon. For emergencies, we take calls 24/7.

How we handle canopy cleaning in Lacey Green

Think of the canopy as the mouth of the extract. If it’s coated in grease, everything downstream gets more of it. We start the check-up there, and the cure is a thorough clean of the hood, the plenum and the filter housing. If you have filters that clog soon after cleaning and drips from the canopy onto the range, we can put it right, from grease gutters, wall canopies and canopy light fittings onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

We’re CHAS and SafeContractor accredited, we hold ISO 9001 and we’re fully insured. We’re also a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, trading since 2009.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time agreed with you, often in the evening, overnight or at the weekend so the site keeps working. Anything that needs to be off for the work is switched off and left to cool before work begins, and the area around the work is covered and protected. On site, it takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. Somewhere like Lacey Green, lanes, gates and parking are worth mentioning in advance.

  1. We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. With the filters out, the plenum and housing are cleaned back.
  4. The canopy is cleaned inside and out, including troughs and seams.
  5. Filters go back, the area is cleaned down and pictures are taken.

How to prepare

  • Allow time for equipment near the work to be turned off and cool down
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand
  • Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It won’t put right:

  • A hood that doesn’t cover the cooking line
  • Filters that no longer seal in the housing
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 0345 646 2711 or email us and we will tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Baffle filters
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies
  • Canopy light fittings

Why deal with it now?

Getting the canopy cleaned in Lacey Green now saves a bigger job later. It takes a few hours, depending on the size of the canopy and how much grease has built up, out of hours so service carries on. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. Planning a trip to Lacey Green ahead is easier for everyone than a rushed one.

The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why every job is surveyed first, and why the quote is fixed before work begins.

What canopy cleaning looks like in Lacey Green

Food Standards Agency data counts about 5 restaurants, cafés and works canteens across Lacey Green and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Where they cook under a hood, the plenum behind the filters is where grease hides. Environmental health officers from Buckinghamshire council inspect food businesses in Lacey Green. Extraction counts as kitchen equipment, so its condition can come up on the day. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service covers Lacey Green. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.

Term dates shape school work: for a school like St John's Church of England Primary School, an extract clean fits neatly into a half-term or summer break. Volunteers running a hall kitchen near Church of St John the Evangelist, or anywhere in Lacey Green, may not know when the extract was last cleaned, and a grease test settles it.

What the work involves, part by part

Wall canopies

The back of a wall canopy is hard to reach and easy to miss. We remove the filters to reach it and degrease it properly.

Island canopies

Island canopies hang over cooking in the middle of the kitchen, so every face can collect grease. Each face is cleaned inside and out.

What staff can safely do

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A simple log of filter washes, wipe-downs and checks shows an inspector that the system is looked after between visits, alongside our reports.

Staff cleaning and specialist work aren’t the same thing. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but grease that has passed the filters is out of reach. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Do you need canopy cleaning in Lacey Green?

Filters that are missing, damaged or badly seated leave gaps. The plenum and housing behind them then take far more grease than they should, which shows up as heavy deposits when the filters come out.

Most sites get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Canopy gutters full of old fat
  • Condensation running down the canopy
  • Grease filters blocking between washes

West Wycombe Park House, about 3.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses near Lacey Green; if you run event catering at a venue like that, cleans can be booked between functions.

What your quote should include

  • Whether inaccessible sections are listed on the report
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Whether they recommend a next date
  • Whether the quote is based on a survey or photos
