Multi-site and managed buildings

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

Running several sites is easier with one contractor. We cover South East England and London, so visits at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

Canopy cleaning in Honey Hill

We clean canopies in Honey Hill when the kitchen isn’t cooking: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Cooking equipment is turned off and cooled, then covered, and the kitchen is left ready for the next service. The work covers baffle filters, island canopies and plenum chambers, and the jobs we see most are wet, greasy drips from the hood and a greasy hood noticed by an inspector.

In a small place like Honey Hill, kitchens are often in older or extended buildings, with long single-storey duct runs, where grease settles in the flat sections. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

A written report with pictures follows each visit, so there’s a dated record of the work. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

What affects the cost of canopy cleaning

You’ll get a fixed price before work begins. It’s based on:

  • How many systems or sites are involved
  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • Where the site is and how we reach it

Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you’re unsure, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email for straight advice and a fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

To speed up the quote, send us:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Your opening hours and when the area is out of use
  • Where the site is and what kind of site it is
  • Any symptoms, from odd noises to smells or leaks

Quoting starts with a diagnosis, from your photos and details or, where that isn’t enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price so you know the cost before we start.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits between visits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Run the extract the whole time you are cooking
  • Check and empty canopy gutters regularly
  • Avoid harsh scourers that scratch the canopy
  • Never run the range with a filter out

A before and after photo report follows the clean. It notes what was cleaned and anything we couldn’t reach, so the record is honest and complete.

Clean filters are the canopy’s first defence. Wash or exchange them regularly, and make sure they’re all in place before cooking. Less grease gets into the plenum as a result.

Honey Hill kitchens: local notes

Honey Hill lies within about 3 miles of the sea. Salt air speeds up corrosion of roof-level fans, discharge cowls and their fixings. Look up Honey Hill on the FSA’s food hygiene register and you will find about 3 restaurants, cafés and canteens in Honey Hill and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Each canopy in those kitchens catches grease on the inside of the hood and behind the filters. Food hygiene inspections in Honey Hill are the job of Canterbury City council’s environmental health team. The cleanliness of the kitchen and its equipment, extraction included, is part of what they check. Before-and-after photos from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand.

School kitchens, at schools like The Archbishop's School for example, are typically cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost. If you run a church or community hall kitchen, near Church of St Cosmus and St Damian or elsewhere in Honey Hill, its extract still collects grease from every lunch and event.

Your questions about canopy cleaning in Honey Hill

Can a school canteen extract in Honey Hill be done out of term time?

Yes. Half-terms and the summer break are the natural time for school work. There are about 2 schools, colleges and universities on the FSA’s food hygiene register within about 1.5 miles of Honey Hill. Booking early in the term gives the best choice of holiday dates.

Can sea air affect canopy cleaning in Honey Hill?

Yes, to a degree: at about 3 miles from the coast, Honey Hill gets salt-laden air that corrodes metal faster. Outdoor metalwork near the sea is worth inspecting at each visit.

Do we need to close while you work?

Not normally. Visits are timed for when the area is closed, such as overnight or at a weekend, so the site can carry on as normal.

How do you keep the site clean during the work?

With sheeting and covers, before anything else happens. We keep the work contained and clean down when we finish.

Can one contract cover all our sites?

Yes. One number covers all your sites across London and the South East, and visits can be set on a regular cycle.

Which accreditations do you hold?

BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite membership, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, plus CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. We’ve been trading since 2009 and we are fully insured.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Plans on a 3, 6 or 12-monthly cycle are available, depending on what the system needs.

Does a canopy clean meet TR19?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Why act early in Honey Hill

Grease on the canopy is sitting just above the heat source. Flames from the range can ignite it and be pulled further into the system, where a fire is much harder to stop. A clean canopy takes that fuel away. It’s worth booking a check, because nobody sees inside a duct day to day.

Combining work into one visit or one programme often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you will get one fixed quote.

Why us?

How it works

A visit follows the same order every time: protect the area, isolate whatever needs isolating, do the work, tidy up and leave you the report. The visit itself takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. If you can send pictures, we can arrive in Honey Hill knowing what to expect.

  1. The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. We put the filters back, tidy up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Arrange a key holder or contact on site
  • Tell us the best time to work, such as after service or at a weekend
  • Let us know about permits to work or site inductions

Get a fixed quote

For a fixed quote, call 0345 646 2711, or send details by email with the site type, your trading hours and a short description of the system. A few pictures and your last certificate or report help a lot. We normally come back within one working day.

Related advice

Do you need canopy cleaning in Honey Hill?

Air straight off the range hits the canopy first. Fat in that air settles on the inside of the hood, in its seams and on the filters before what gets through reaches the plenum.

Clients normally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Wet, greasy drips from the hood
  • Fat running down the front of the hood
  • A sticky, discoloured canopy
  • Grease channels that no longer drain

Healthcare kitchens, like those at hospitals such as Eastbridge Hospital of St Thomas the Martyr (about 3.1 miles south-east), often cook for long hours, which puts them in BESA’s heavier-use bands.
