Canopy cleaning in Hareplain

How we handle canopy cleaning in Hareplain

Canopy cleaning is part of every full TR19® Grease clean, but some sites need the canopy done between full cleans. In that case, the report makes clear what was and wasn’t cleaned, so your records stay accurate. If you’re dealing with wet, greasy drips from the hood and a canopy that no longer draws the smoke away, we can help, from baffle filters, grease gutters and plenum chambers onwards.

Work in a small place like Hareplain starts with a call to agree access and timings, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy to discharge, then a TR19® certificate and a photo report.

We have been trading since 2009, as a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease. CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001 are in place too, and we carry full insurance.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you, which is often after service, overnight or at a weekend. Equipment that has to be off is switched off and allowed to cool before any work starts, and floors and nearby surfaces are sheeted. The work itself takes a few hours for most canopies. Pictures of the system and its access let us plan the work in Hareplain before we set off.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Once the kitchen has closed, the cooking line is cooled and sheeted.
  3. With the filters removed, the plenum and filter channels are cleaned.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, plant rooms, ceilings or locked areas
  • Name a contact who can let us in at the agreed time
  • Plan for cooking equipment or plant to be off before we arrive

Advice

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Managing agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

For anyone managing more than one site, we can schedule visits across all of them on one quote. Every building has its own written report, so each one has its own record.

Common questions in Hareplain

Is Hareplain within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Photos of the system and directions to the site help us plan the visit.

Who is the fire and rescue service for Hareplain?

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is the fire and rescue service for Hareplain. Records of extract cleaning are a sensible thing to have ready if a fire safety officer carries out an audit.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. We always survey first, from your photos and details, or with a visit where necessary. A fixed quote follows.

How much of the canopy do you clean?

We clean the canopy inside and out, along with its seams and grease channels. The plenum and filter housing behind the filters are cleaned too.

Will I get a report after the canopy clean?

A photo report shows the canopy and plenum before and after. Full system cleans also come with a TR19 certificate.

Do you clean canopies in all kinds of kitchens?

Wall canopies, island canopies and single hoods over individual appliances. Each one is cleaned inside and out, with the plenum behind the filters.

What types of premises do you cover?

All kinds of commercial and public premises: from restaurants, pubs and hotels to schools, hospitals, care homes, offices, shops and food production sites. Work is timed around how each site runs.

How long will it take to clean the canopy?

One lightly soiled hood doesn’t take long, while long canopies, several hoods or heavy deposits take more time. We will tell you what to expect.

Canopy cleaning around Hareplain

The Food Standards Agency lists about 3 pubs, bars and clubs as registered food businesses across Hareplain and its immediate surroundings (about a mile and a half). Any of them serving cooked food has an extract to keep clean, from canopy to discharge. Kent Fire and Rescue Service covers Hareplain. The Fire Safety Order puts the duty on whoever runs a kitchen to control its fire risk, and a greasy duct is fuel. It’s Tunbridge Wells council that sends environmental health officers to food businesses in Hareplain. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Keeping each certificate and photo report on file helps show the extract is looked after.

If you run catering at a healthcare site, such as a hospital like Benenden Hospital about 2.7 miles south, the extract may need cleaning more often than a part-time kitchen.

Leave it or put it right?

Fresh grease comes off far more easily than old. Over months, the heat hardens it into a stubborn coating, so the longer it’s left, the longer the clean takes. Equipment tucked in a roof space or outbuilding near Hareplain rarely gets looked at unless someone books it.

Working hours, access and the scale of the site can all change the price. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

When to call us in Hareplain

Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. The result is sticky streaks and drips onto the range.

The symptoms we are asked about most are:

  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • Overflowing grease troughs and gutters
  • Poor capture at the hood
  • Condensation and grease dripping together

Around Hareplain, as anywhere, we clean the parts you cannot see as well as the canopy you can.

Questions to ask before you book

What affects the quote in Hareplain

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • Access, including roofs, risers and ceiling voids
  • What state the system is in
  • Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a schedule
  • How many systems or sites are involved

Combining work into one visit or one programme can make for a more efficient booking. Mention every system or site you need covered, and you’ll get one fixed quote.

What to send for a quote

You do not need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Detail shots of panels, filters and grilles
  • Photos showing the whole system and its surroundings
  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • Any previous report or certificate

Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Big or complicated sites, and systems that are hard to see in photos, get a survey first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work starts.

In-house cleaning or a specialist?

Logging matters as much as cleaning. A dated log of in-house cleaning and checks helps show that the system is managed between specialist visits, alongside our reports.

Away from the kitchen, the in-house job is mainly checking: clear grilles, a log of filter changes and reporting anything odd. The inside of ducts and units needs a specialist.

What a clean will not put right

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • A light fitting that does not work
  • A dirty extract fan further along the system
  • A canopy too small for the cooking under it (that is a design question)

If in doubt, call 0345 646 2711 or email us and we’ll say what we think.
