What staff can safely do

If your staff spot something between visits, like drips, unusual noise, smells or damaged filters, it’s best reported rather than tackled in-house. We’ll take a look and send you a fixed quote.

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. A daily filter wipe and a weekly filter wash keep grease down at the front of the system, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Canopy cleaning in Gushmere, done properly

Of the whole extract system, the canopy is the bit on show. It’s also the first place cooking vapour meets, so grease gathers on its inner skin, seams and gutters. We clean it inside and out, along with the plenum and filter housing behind it. We are often asked to deal with a hood coated in old grease and a plenum thick with grease behind the filters, across plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and wall canopies.

In a village or hamlet like Gushmere, the kitchens that need extract cleaning are normally a pub, a school, a care home or a hall kitchen, wherever there is one. Each still has a canopy and duct that collect grease, whatever the size of the place.

For insurers and inspectors, the record counts. So every job comes with a written report and pictures, plus a TR19® certificate through the BESCA VHE portal where the work is a TR19® Grease clean.

Multi-site and managed buildings

We work for landlords, managing agents and facilities managers as well as the people running the site. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we’re happy to quote for all of it.

We regularly work with managing agents. Send the address, what’s needed and how access works, and we will send a fixed quote.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Gushmere

We don’t publish a price list, because no two systems are the same. What we look at:

  • Any permits to work or inductions
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • When the work can happen, such as evenings, overnight or weekends
  • Whether several sites go on one quote

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Problems in a system tend to grow, which can make the next visit longer. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a fixed quote.

Asking for a quote

We can often survey from photos. Try to include:

  • The roof, plant room or outside wall the system runs to
  • The paperwork from the last visit, if you have it
  • When the site is open and when it’s quiet
  • Anything you’ve noticed, such as smells, noise, drips or poor airflow

Every quote begins with a look at the system, from your pictures and details or, where that is not enough, a survey on site. Then we send a fixed price, before work begins.

What a clean will not put right

Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:

  • Faulty canopy lights or wiring (a job for an electrician)
  • A canopy undersized for the equipment
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 646 2711 or drop us a line and we will tell you honestly.

Where we work

  • Grease gutters
  • Baffle filters
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Plenum chambers
  • Island canopies
  • Wall canopies

What we do, step by step

The visit has three parts: set-up, the treatment itself and the sign-off. Getting ready means protecting surfaces and switching off what needs to be off, while signing off means the written report and photos. The middle part takes longest, and that takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. If you can send photos, we can arrive in Gushmere knowing what to expect.

  1. We start by checking the canopy, filters and plenum.
  2. The range is turned off and allowed to cool before we cover it.
  3. We remove the grease filters and clean the plenum and filter housing.
  4. We degrease the canopy shell, its seams and the grease troughs.
  5. We refit the filters, clear up and photograph the finished canopy.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any locked doors, roof access or ceiling voids
  • Mention any parking or loading restrictions
  • Have your last certificate or report to hand

Getting a quote

We don’t publish a price list, because every site is different. Instead, we look at your site first, from pictures or a survey, and then send you a fixed quote. To start, call 0345 646 2711, or email photos.

Island canopies

An island canopy is open on all sides, so every face can collect grease. Each face is cleaned inside and out.

School and staff canteen kitchens

School and canteen kitchens often cook to set hours, which makes a canopy clean easy to schedule. Holidays and weekends work well.

Grease, kitchens and Gushmere

Kitchens in Gushmere get their food hygiene inspections from Swale council. An officer looking round a kitchen will see the canopy, and grease there is hard to miss. A TR19® certificate and photo report after each clean gives you a record to show an inspector. Fire safety in Gushmere falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. In most workplaces, including commercial kitchens, it’s the fire and rescue authority that enforces the Fire Safety Order.

Where a hall near Church of St Mary, or anywhere in Gushmere, hosts lunch clubs or events, its extract gathers grease just as a café’s does. For schools such as Selling Church of England Primary School, kitchen extract cleaning is typically booked for the holidays, when the canteen is closed. For kitchens close to Selling station, where the day often starts early and ends late, the extract can be cleaned overnight.

Gushmere questions

Do you work in villages like Gushmere?

Yes. Gushmere is within the area we cover across London and the South East. The journey is planned ahead, so a few details about the route help.

Who carries out food hygiene inspections in Gushmere?

Food hygiene inspections in Gushmere are carried out by Swale council. Ratings are published by the Food Standards Agency, so a clean extract and good records are worth keeping up.

How long does canopy cleaning take?

One lightly soiled hood doesn’t take long, but large or heavily soiled canopies take longer. We will tell you what to expect.

Is canopy cleaning enough for TR19?

You can have the canopy cleaned on its own, but it will not cover the ductwork or fan. TR19 Grease covers everything the grease travels through, at intervals set by BESA guidance.

Do we need to close the kitchen for a canopy clean?

The clean is done out of hours: evenings, overnight, early mornings or weekends. Equipment under the canopy needs to be off and cool.

What should I send you?

Only a few details: where it is, what kind of site, when it’s open and the access. Photos and the last report help too. After that, simply phone us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email.

Do you clean the grease filters as part of a canopy clean?

Filters are removed so we can clean the plenum and housing, then cleaned and refitted. Between cleans, a filter exchange service can keep them in good order.

Can you look after several sites?

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and we’ll quote them together.

Why deal with it now?

A canopy clean in Gushmere now stops the grease spreading further. It takes part of a shift for most kitchens, more where there are several canopies or heavy deposits, done while the kitchen is closed. Left alone, grease keeps moving into the plenum and duct. A planned visit to Gushmere is easier to arrange than an emergency callout.

When the work has to happen, how we reach it and how big the site is can all change the price. We take each of them into account and give you a fixed price before work begins.
