Canopy cleaning near East End Green

Why deal with it now?

Leaving the canopy until the next full clean can mean months of build-up. Some kitchens need the canopy cleaning more often than the whole system, and readings or a look behind the filters will show it. If the system at a site near East End Green fails, there may be nowhere nearby to move to.

No two sites are the same, so each one gets its own fixed quote. The size of the job, how we reach it, its condition and the working hours all make a difference.

Canopy cleaning in East End Green

We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. We’re a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you are dealing with a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and a hood coated in old grease, we can put it right, from plenum chambers, canopy light fittings and grease gutters onwards.

Rural kitchens often have long, low duct runs through a roof space or along an outside wall, and those horizontal sections are where grease settles. Access, parking and timings are agreed before the day.

A written report with photos follows each visit, so you have a record of what was done and when. Where the work is a TR19® Grease clean, the certificate is issued through the BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite portal.

Can a school canteen extract in East End Green be done out of term time?

Yes, out-of-term visits are normal for schools. The FSA’s register shows about 2 schools and colleges with food registrations within roughly a mile and a half of East End Green. Just give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form with your term dates and we will plan around them.

Yes. Send the list of sites and the work at each and you’ll get one fixed quote.

What kinds of canopies do you clean?

Most commercial kitchen canopies, from one small hood to a long run of canopies. We work out the approach when we survey, from photos or a visit.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the site is, what it is and when it’s open, along with a few photos and any previous report.

What do you do to protect the area?

We start with protection: sheeting over floors, worktops and anything close to the work. We tidy up and take our waste away before we leave.

When do you clean the canopy?

We clean when you’re not cooking, so most kitchens don’t lose a service. We work evenings, nights and weekends.

What if parts of the system cannot be reached?

They’re listed in the report, never skipped quietly. You’ll know exactly which parts weren’t reached and why, and we can quote to improve the access.

Common problems we fix in East End Green

The plenum is hidden behind the filters, so nobody sees it build up. Daily cleaning reaches the canopy face but rarely gets further, leaving the plenum and housing to collect grease between professional cleans.

Common reasons sites call us are:

  • A hood coated in old grease
  • Filters that clog soon after cleaning
  • Smoke hanging around the canopy during service
  • Fat running down the front of the hood

If you run catering at a historic house or estate in the area (Hatfield House is about 4 miles west), event kitchens in older buildings often have awkward duct runs that need planning.

How to choose an extract cleaning contractor

Multi-site and managed buildings

We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the site, the work and the access arrangements, and we will send a fixed quote.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must assess and reduce fire risk, and that can be the employer, the owner, a landlord, a facilities manager or a managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.

What staff can safely do

In-house cleaning and specialist cleaning do different jobs. Wiping filters daily and washing them weekly keeps the visible parts in order, but they do not reach the grease that builds up further in. Reaching it takes a specialist with the right equipment.

Staff cleaning doesn’t replace a specialist visit; it supports it. Regular in-house cleaning slows the build-up, but the parts you cannot see still need a specialist at the right interval.

How the visit works

There’s very little for your team to do on the day. A contact on site lets us in at the agreed time and points us to the system, and the rest is down to us. Before we leave, the area is tidied and the paperwork follows. Somewhere as small as East End Green, the date and timings are agreed with you well before the day.

  1. The canopy is checked from pictures or on a visit.
  2. Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
  3. We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
  4. The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
  5. Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know how we reach the system, including roofs, risers and plant rooms
  • Clear loose items from the work area
  • Dig out any earlier paperwork for the system

How to get a quote

Photos are the quickest way to a quote: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.

What a clean won’t put right

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
  • Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
  • Grease in the duct runs and risers behind the canopy

If in doubt, call us on 0345 646 2711 or send us an email and we will say what we think.

Where we work

  • Wall canopies
  • Baffle filters
  • Grease gutters
  • Plenum chambers
  • Canopy light fittings
  • Island canopies

Looking after it afterwards

How long the results last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Leave the extract running until cooking stops
  • Do not scrape the canopy with metal tools
  • Check filters aren’t leaving gaps
  • Check all filters are fitted before service

We point out anything we noticed while the canopy was apart: bent or poorly fitting filters, a light cover that’s cracked, or troughs that fill too quickly. It’s a short list of what to watch, not a sales pitch.

A change in how the canopy behaves is worth reporting. More drips or quicker clogging often mean the cleaning interval needs looking at, which a grease thickness test can confirm.
