Canopy cleaning for kitchens and businesses in Clement Street
We’ve been cleaning kitchen canopies since we started trading in 2009. As a BESCA Vent Hygiene Elite member, cleaning to BESA TR19® Grease, we treat the canopy as one part of a whole system, and we hold CHAS, SafeContractor and ISO 9001. If you have a greasy hood noticed by an inspector and smoke hanging around the canopy during service, we can help, from plenum chambers, grease gutters and canopy light fittings onwards.
For a kitchen in or near Clement Street, the visit is planned around opening hours and the journey, and the clean covers the whole system, as it would anywhere: canopy, filters, duct, fan and discharge, with a certificate and photo report at the end.
Good records are part of the job. Each visit is written up with pictures, listing what was done, anything we couldn’t reach and when the next visit is due. Keep it with your fire safety records so it’s to hand when an insurer or inspector asks.

Kitchen extracts in Clement Street
The Food Standards Agency lists about 8 bars, pubs and nightclubs as registered food businesses in Clement Street and the streets around it, up to about 1.5 miles out. Wherever they cook, the canopy, duct and fan collect grease just as a restaurant’s do. In Clement Street, food businesses are inspected by environmental health officers from Dartford council. A greasy canopy or dripping filters are the sort of thing an inspection can pick up. Before-and-after pictures from each clean are a simple way to show the extract is in hand. Fire safety in Clement Street falls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Its fire safety officers can audit commercial kitchens, and grease in the extract is part of a kitchen’s fire risk.
If your kitchen is in a listed or historic building, like the houses around Clement Street (Hall Place and Gardens is about 3.3 miles north-west), fitting access panels needs care. A hall kitchen that only cooks for events, whether near Church of Saint Paul or elsewhere in Clement Street, still needs its extract cleaned, just less often.

Questions from Clement Street
Who inspects food businesses in Clement Street?
In Clement Street, it’s Dartford council that carries out food hygiene inspections. How often a business is inspected depends on the risk rating the council gives it, so it’s worth staying ready all year.
Which fire service covers Clement Street?
It’s Kent Fire and Rescue Service, which covers Clement Street. If a fire safety officer visits a commercial kitchen, they may ask about the fire risk assessment and how the extract is kept clean.
What types of premises do you cover?
We work for restaurants, pubs, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, care homes, offices and shops, plus food production and leisure sites.
Can you clean the canopy outside our opening hours?
We clean when the kitchen is closed: after service, overnight or before opening. The range must be switched off and cooled first.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. We always survey first, either from photos and details you send or on a site visit. A fixed quote follows.
What causes grease to drip from the hood?
A canopy only holds so much grease. Once the troughs and plenum are full, it runs down and drips, often mixed with condensation. Cleaning removes the cause.
Are the filters cleaned too?
They’re taken out, cleaned and refitted. Each filter is checked for fit as it goes back, because gaps let grease through.
Will we have to shut during the visit?
Normally not. Booking the work out of hours means the site can carry on as normal. Larger jobs can be phased over several visits to keep things running.
Do you need canopy cleaning in Clement Street?
Steam and condensation make canopy grease harder to deal with. Water vapour condenses on the cooler canopy surfaces and drips and runs with the grease. Drips onto the cooking line are a common result.
These are the problems we see most often:
- Greasy streaks across the canopy
- Filters that never seem to stay clean
- A filter housing caked in grease
- Fat running down the front of the hood
School kitchens, at schools like Sutton-At-Hone Church of England Primary School for example, are usually cleaned in the holidays so no lunches are lost.
Questions to ask before you book
- When they can work, and whether that is outside your opening hours
- What’s included in the scope, part by part
- Whether VAT is included
- What happens if part of the system can’t be accessed
For landlords and multi-site operators
Landlords, managing agents and facilities managers book us, not only the businesses that use the systems. Where a system serves more than one tenant, such as a shared riser, it helps to agree who arranges the work, and we are happy to quote for all of it.
The Fire Safety Order 2005 puts the duty to manage fire risk on the responsible person, which may be the employer, owner, landlord, FM or managing agent. Where responsibility is shared, records matter even more.
What happens if it’s left?
For a kitchen in Clement Street, a canopy that looks greasy can colour a whole inspection. A clean hood is a sign the kitchen is cared for, and it’s far easier to keep clean than to rescue. Our emergency line runs 24/7, but a planned visit to Clement Street is calmer for everyone.
Leaving it longer rarely makes the work cheaper. Build-up, wear and faults tend to get worse, not better, and a neglected system can mean more work. If you are unsure, give us a ring on 0345 646 2711 or email us for straight advice and a fixed quote.

Fixed quotes for canopy cleaning in Clement Street
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- The scale of the work
- One-off work versus a regular cycle
- Travel, parking and unloading
- The condition we find in the survey
You won’t find a price list here, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed quote, call us on 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form, and we will explain what it covers.
What to send for a quote
To help us quote quickly, send us:
- The times we could work without disrupting the site
- Any access panels or hatches you can see
- Where the plant sits or the system leaves the building, such as a roof or outside wall
- Your last certificate, test record or report
Photos are enough for some jobs, while others need a look on site. Larger sites, and anything hidden behind walls, ceilings or floors, are normally surveyed first. Either way, the quote is fixed before any work is booked.
What your team can do, and what needs us
Your own staff can handle the daily basics: wiping canopies, washing grease filters and recording it in a log. What they can’t safely do is clean inside the ductwork, the fan or the risers, and that’s where we come in.
A few tasks are always specialist work: opening up ductwork, cleaning fans, drop testing fire dampers and measuring grease call for the right kit, training and safe access. Leave those to us.
What canopy cleaning cannot fix
Not every problem is solved by canopy cleaning, and we’ll tell you before we start. It doesn’t solve:
- Grease filters too damaged to refit (they need replacing)
- A canopy undersized for the equipment
- Weak extraction caused by a failing fan motor
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 646 2711 or use the quote form and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
Where we work
- Island canopies
- Plenum chambers
- Canopy light fittings
- Baffle filters
- Wall canopies
- Grease gutters
The process
We start by comparing what we find with the survey or your pictures. If anything is different, we talk it through with the person on site before carrying on. After that, the work takes an hour or two for one small canopy, longer where there are several. For a village or hamlet like Clement Street, tell us about narrow lanes, gates and parking when you book.
- The canopy is checked from photos or on a visit.
- Out of hours, the range is switched off, cooled and covered.
- We lift out the filters and scrape the plenum and housing.
- The canopy shell, seams, troughs and gutters are degreased inside and out.
- Filters are refitted, the area cleaned down and the photo report put together.
How to prepare
- Move anything stored near the system
- Make sure equipment near the work can be switched off and left to cool
- Make sure someone can let us in and lock up afterwards
Get a fixed quote
The quickest way to a quote is to send pictures: the system from a couple of angles, plus any access panels or hatches. Add the site type and your opening hours, and we can price many jobs without a visit.
